Kid the reason you get so little sympathy is that many of us have children and go to college, and have worked the dirtiest jobs imaginable--- If you are smart and work hard, you Will get ahead.

I have also noted that the ones that complain the most about how the "system" keeps them down are also the ones unwilling to put in that extra effort.

See now this is the reason I'm a communist. I like to talk about economics and other things, but this is really what gets me. People think that they are superior to people who are not as economically well off as them. To me, that is what has to go. You can never rid society of that prejudice in a capitalist system because it's the justification. It's the 800 pound fat lady on your couch that you want to pretend is a giant couch cushion.

It has nothing to do with being better off economically and everything to do with having some personal ambition and making things happen for yourself. I'm only economically better off than you because I worked my ass off and made some big sacrifices along the way. I'm being rewarded for that now, but I didn't complain about the system screwing me over when I voluntarily gave up all of my income and went into debt so that I could get my MBA. And I didn't get into a good MBA program without working hard in undergrad and then busting my ass, going far over and above what I was being paid to do at my job after graduation.

I don't know how this thread got to be about me. Well actually I do, but it's not suppose to be. The conservatives can't find any other way to argue, or maybe they just don't want to lose.

Anyway. Thanks for the honest advice. I don't think they have dorms for children, but don't worry too much for me. I have some money, and something will work out soon I think. There are other people who aren't as lucky though. Some of them are lazy. Most of them are sick. Then there are those who are just victims. There the people conservatives want to let die off and then forget about.

Poverty is both a matter of personal and collective responsibility.

I personally think that our societies of plenty can afford to remove extreme poverty altogether within it (hence, I think it's the responsibility of society to pull someone out of extreme poverty).

And even for non-extreme poverty, society has to provide opportunities to climb the social ladder, opportunities to make money, and to reduce various costs of accidents in life.

For example, I consider it's society's role to reduce the costs of studying and of having children. Both of them are positive for society as a whole, and the weight should be partly (if not entirely) be bore by socitey.
