I would say the debate was a pretty strong victory for Kerry. Bush dodged a lot of questions, had a lot of stammering and awkward pauses, and made a lot of redundant points (mixed messages, etc). Kerry's only major fault was his over-emphasis on alliance building. To Bush's credit, he managed to stave off what could have been a much more disasterous defeat.

Victory yes, strong no. He didn't hammer a lot of stuff home, to do well on these things you need to have the consistency of an advertising campaign as well as the flexibilty to answer unexpected questions and rebutt what the other person says. Unless you're treating this as a formal debate instead of a campaign gimmick, in which case, yes, Kerry crushed Bush utterly.

The analysis coming back so far are showing Kerry with a big win tonight. My initial impressions showed that it was only a slight victory, but this was a big win indeed. It wasn't decisive but it has beat down alot of the tactics the Bush camp has used against him so far.

He did the following things:

1) Showed he wasn't a flipflopper
2) Showed he was likable
3) Showed he was capable of being a strong, commander in chief leader


Bush showed:

He couldn't answer questions

Other highlights:

One clip that I missed was when Kerry used Bush's Dad against him! He said his Dad was smart enough to stay out of Baghdad because he had no exit strategy.

That was a total pwn though, Bush started shifting around and was clearly uncomfortable and pissed off with it.

Another big point was when Kerry came back on Bush when Bush said, "the enemy attacked us." Kerry came back and said, "Osama Bin Laden attacked us, not SADDAM."

Of course I am biased in favor of Kerry but I think Kerry did good tonight.

I'm talking about months worth of polling. Fox has consistently been one of the polls Kerry has done best in, which makes any implication that they would refuse to publish a pro-Kerry debate poll laughable.
