I strongly feel for #2, and just slow down the tech pace!! It's not hard, and the locked alliance means among other things you don't have to pay for an embassy!!

MWIA - you are right. It is ok to discuss and pick civs. We have done that already at our end.

But we have not discussed who researches what tech to start the game. That is all I am talking about. Some choices may be pretty straightforward, if you know what I mean, but all I am recommending/asking is that teams don't discuss it until the civs meet, And that should be fairly soon into the game I imagine.

So - have you guys figured out what civs you want?

Er, yeah, what McMeadows said. Whilst discussing civs we've been discussing what techs they could get quickly. That's already almost settled.

Ok - then let's acknowledge that tech research has been discussed.

We should agree, however, that once the game starts, no correspondence or hints on how to find ech other, until contact in-game is made.

And the Civilized world will consist of:

Beta - French
snoopy - Vikings
con - Celts
Rhoth - Russians

(ok - we are little less than civilized. )

Will get the map done and game started asap.

That's not your play order. I think it was discussed earlier - but can you please confirm. Thanks.

So, if i'm to understand correctly, we may discuss techs (though perhaps not discuss *when* techs are completed, say?) and general strategy (ie, "let's take out the chinese first because they suck ... er... ) but not physical locations on the map (until we meet in-game, at which point we can talk about anything)?

My intent was for all discussions about game stuff (except perhaps asking for links to general strat for your particular civ, which after all has nothing to do with this particular game) to cease as soon as the game started, and not to resume until members had contact with each other. Sound good?

Yes, beta, but I meant that you can discuss what the opponents' likely general strategy will be based on civ choices, etc. ...

MWIA, I think that if we've been assumed to have talked about things already, we should still be able to talk about them. But, nothing that's not known should be discussed.

IE, we can talk about our scientific strategy (as that's already happened, and no further 'damage' can occur) but can't discuss what science we're actually on; we can discuss the fact that Paddy is evil and should be destroyed, but not discuss the units we're making to that end nor the location of said Evil nor the timing of any attack. Until we meet, anyway.

Essentially, discussing things that we could realistically have discussed pre-game can still happen post-start of game, but nothing that occurs after the beginning can be discussed until meet-up.

Make sense?

Oh, and is it OK for player A who's met both B and C to help the other two players meet up (ie, "Keep moving thataway, or thisaway, or wherever"? I'd think yes, but wanted to check.

Beta emailed me and asked me to check this out for purposes of setting up a map. As I am at work, all I have had the opportunity to do is skim the thread. I have a couple of good ideas, so that I can make a map and scenario for you. As you know, however, it is always nicer to have two working on it. Hopefully Oct will agree to jointly do a map.

Also, RL is a bit time pressed lately, so I will not be able to really dig in and do anything other than this post for the next couple of days. If someone can, post or email me a summary of everything, including teams, rules, diff barb settings, etc. that you want.

Good luck. This sounds like a fun map to make, but if SR can do so earlier, go for it.

It will not upset me one bit, although that looks more like a waltz, not the shuffle.....

And did we reach a consensus over what is legitemate in the pre-game discussion in crontast to in-game? As far as I understand, we are allowed to discuss anything we want untill we start the game, after which we obey the contact rules as for iron civ... Hmm would mean we have to establish embassies. Or do they come prebuild with locked alliances? And would we be allowed to share maps after mapmaking?
