And the person who did such a thing would not do it if they had to use a bat, knife, poison, etc instead of a gun? The psychological distance allowed by guns did not turn this girl into a murderer, it "may" in other cases, but this was a mother and daughter relationship. I heard the girl was mad because mommy grounded her, that makes her beyond a criminal in my book, more like criminally insane...and the criminally insane won't be deterred by the absence of a gun. Unfortunately, I doubt she'll be "cured" after a few years in a cage and she's let go because the first evidence of her proclivity for evil was revealed for all to see when she was a child.

I dont know if Im the only, but I mildly disagree to you statement that the psychological distance had nothing to do with it.
I firmly believe that in many cases like it, the ease of the gun was a factor.
I believe the girl might not have done it with a knife.
Might not.
Like if you take a 100 girls in similar state with access to guns and 100 girls with access to knives, more girls with guns will have killed.
Of course that is outside the realm of experimental science.
I still believe that, not just from theory but from putting myself in the skin, and people I know.
Maybe Im a coward, but It would be easier for me to kill someone with a gun than say a knife, and I would have to be angrier and for a longer period of time to kill someone by punching him repeatedly than to shoot with a gun.

This is supposition, but if it was a household gun, and it was not kept locked or the ammunition seperate - stupidity has it's own rewards, and both mother, daughter, and her 10 year old brother have/will all suffer for it. Sad - the 10 year old called the police, how messed up is he going to be (what he walked in on - now that is horror).

Putting the tragedy aside for a minute, does anybody else think there is something wrong with these quotes?
