The Sox might not have won tonight without Wake's wonderful pitching. So who would you have put in? Arroyo on 3 days rest? I don't think so. Its not a Little Move because they have no one else.

Ther Sox forcing a game 7 by itself would be historic. Never has a team in Baseball been down 3-0 and forced a game 7.

If Schilling can go, Schilling can go. The fact that it was a problem in the first place was because Schilling was injured. Wakefield needed to come into that game last night, there's no question. Its just the way the game works, its not a "team problem". The Yankees were in the same situation last night, the only difference being one of their pitchers wasn't injured.

@ LoA. In Manic mode again, I see. Your team won two games. That's nice *pats LoA on head* You gotta win two more for it to matter.

That said, it was definitely irritating to watch the Yanks blow two late leads like that. The first one's on Rivera, whereas I'd say game 5 is on Gordon. Rivera blew a save without allowing a hit, because he inherited 1st & 3rd and no one out from Gordon.

Tonight (provided it doesn't get rained out) should be very interesting. What will Shilling be able to bring? Nobody knows - I bet even Shilling doesn't know. That's fascinating by itself. Then, if the Sox do manage to win, who in the hell starts game 7 - for either team??

You just had to know this series couldn't be simple.

I watched a part of game 4 but turned it off before the bottom of the 9th. Last night I watched from the top of the 8th and stayed till the end (it was gonna be the last inning I watched though).

I havent watched baseball for many many years and I just have this comment. Its amazing how much time these guys spend spitting. Its like a constant barrage of faces with goo coming from their mouths. Its disgusting to watch.

I watch enough baseball that it doesn't faze me. Heck, I don't even notice it, I'm so used to it. Agreed that it's nasty, though. Even nastier is the chew-spit.

The Astros now have some freedom. Their bullpin is fine. They could either put in Clemens or Munro in Game 6. If Munro wins, they start with Clemens then Oswalt against the Red Sox. If Clemens starts then we'll just have to lead with Oswalt then Backe. Not too bad of a situation.

Starting pitchers on 3 days rest is just generally a bad idea. Starting your 42-yr. old ace strikes me as stupid.

Even if a pitcher in that situation pitches fairly well, it's likely you will only get about 5 innings out of him. The Astros bullpen short of Lidge isn't very good. Which means you will have several innings where that vulnerable pen has to get the Cardinals out (assuming you even have the lead) before you get to Lidge.

So, best-case (IMO), is you get about 5 innings/2 runs out of Clemens. Worst-case is he gets shelled.

Munro has a decent shot of getting through 5 innings himself. And even if you lose the game, Clemens fully rested for game 7 sounds pretty good.

They certainly have the advantage now. Although the home team has yet to lose and the series goes back to St. Louis.

Hey, I thought the Yanks had the advantage in the 2001 WS, going back to Arizona up 3-2. But it didn't work out (even though they got to Mariano with a lead in the 8th). True that the Cards don't have the pitching that Arizona had, but neither did Arizona have the offense the Cards have.

If it does get rained out tonight, then it seems for the last 3 days, at least, the breaks will go the Red Sox way for the first time in years! The Sox need a night to rest their bullpen, which is more important to them than the Yanks (because who knows how long Schilling can go).

Schilling is a freaking trooper. I'm impressed. Even if he ends up losing the game, he's been great so far with torn tendons in his ankle. That's amazing.
