now everyone else is playing SOU, I think I might start up a new game of it. . The only problem is I played it through 2 and 1/2 times. I know it by heart now.

I'm not sure about the Deekin thing now. That's why I wanted to try a new game- to see if I could kill him. . Maybe you can kill him after you get the part from him.

it seems as if Deekin is unkillable . Sometimes I really wish they had made the original campaigns less linear and less newbie friendly. It'll teach people a lesson if they don't make enough save game slots

I tried just now with my Paladin. Can't seem to do it. Yeah, I know, I shouldn't be killing him as a paladin. Just something I wanted to try and then reload.

Anyone know what kind of sword the holy avenger is? That's the only reason I played a paladin so I could get the holy avenger. Is it a longsword of greatsword? I hope it's a greatsword, since I just took weapon focus in that.

it is a thing that goes on weapons (usually swords)

although I think that you could put it on anything, even a mace

I've been working on my mod, which I haven't touched in about half a year. Finished the first part of it this week including a two-minute cutscene.

Got spare money?

I killed the rest of the elementals last night, and reached J'nah, but I didn't have a proper go at killing her - just went through the conversation and then legged it behind the gnolls when they arrived to watch what happened. What happened? Well Dorna was killed pretty much instantly, the useless lump, and J'nah seems to have a pretty nice line in lightning spells, although using the dragon's powder on her works quite nicely. Of course I got the whassname to use on the dragon too, but I won't have gnoll back-up in that fight to strategically use/hide behind.
I should be able to play a little more at the weekend.

I forgot about that thing I got from J'nah to use on the dragon. I put it in a henchman's inventory, as mine was a bit crowded. Took the dragon out after a hell of a fight, tho'. And not a second too soon. What does that thing do? Useful against anything else?
Lots of nice bits in SoU--I find myself getting amused by the NPCs more often than in NWN. The followers of Ao now think I'm their god incarnate. Cool. Probably as close to being a diety as I'll ever get.

spoiler(highlight to read):
The ice phylactery turns you into a frost giant until the battle ends... which means you're immune to the dragon's breath weapon. Though for the purposes of protection from cold, using that amulet you can get in the Elven Crypt would work similarly.

you took the dragon out without that shape changing potion!

how?

Even with that potion, I struggle against it. If I can't get enough hits in, he'll eventually wear down all my extra hitpoints.

actually I reloaded a recent save and changed my weapon focus to longsword . Kind of cheating, but oh well. Paladins don't get the number of feats fighters do, I really can't waste em. with fighters, I don't mind wasting feats.

Of course, when it's done. By first part, I meant about the first six areas. There are about 7 more parts to complete until chapter 1 is finished.

As for SoU, I like it better than Hordes, personally. It has better atmosphere. The areas in SoU are beautifully designed.

HotU has more varied and interesting gameplay. Bigger fights too. However it is too easy with a good char, and the xp is a bit out of whack.

Well Ive just demolished SoU. not too bad really, I plan on giving it another run through to see if I can make enough money to buy those boots of haste at ao town.

I stuck with the orc sorceror hench all the way through but kept telling him to take only sorc levels. Very potent towards the end when he would haste himelf and dump all his fireballs into the fight. not so useful when the enemies were obviously fire resistant, but he's just a bit dumb like that. He could stoneskin me as well which made all the big fights a doddle.

where are the boots of speed? I hope I didn't miss them, I haven't been paying close attention to their inventories. They mostly had crap I didn't care about.

I defeated that giant in chapter 1. I waited till I was level 7, he turned out to be easy when at that level.

I still used the special items for the dragon. I didn't have that amulet of cold resistance (I took the saphire instead for some reason).

I'm there right now, cool.

As a Paladin I had to fight that one undead monk guy. I don't think regular characters can get into that section of the dugeon (but I can't remember for sure). That was one tough fight. Luckily I had a potion of speed, that was enough to get me through. And I got my holy avenger.

I just dug out my HotU cd. I thought the reason I didnt have access to new spells like bless weapon was because I was playing the SoU campaign. Turns out I forgot to install HotU at all! That would have made life a little easier, bless weapon seems to stack with my holy avenger as well...?

You can just about get enough from the stinger caves and kel garas dungeon. If you weren't too spendthrift early on its even easier.

He was easy for me, though I did abuse the upgrading smith (Enserric as a greatsword, with haste, and tonnes of upgrades), with Deekin as ueber buffer. Hardest fight in HotU was the Maker, which took a couple of reloads.

Nothing in HotU was as hard as J'nah was in SoU. I think they should have made the HotU boss fights slightly harder.

It depends on the build you use, like always. A very one-sided build (i.e. sneak based) will simply curl iup and die vs the Dracolich, for example.
