Actually, he's rather anti-Trotskyist. Being the Trot I am, I was rather annoyed by some of his comments.

By way of ID they just checked to see if my signature matched the one on my voter registration.

Edit: Come to think of it, I did have my "civil service" badge on at the time as well.

Lose 30 kilos (of popups)

If I could vote I would vote for Bush, if figure four more years of the US ****ing itself is probably good for the rest of the planet (well most of it!) in the long run...

What? Oh sorry - that's just me being nasty. If I lived in the US it would be Kerry. On domestic policies alone, you'd be a mug not to - hence my previous comments...

My g/f did the right thing and voted Kerry on her postal ballot for Florida - she couldn't be bothered but I kept badgering her to do it.

So perhaps I did vote in the US elections after all...

I think most states are like mine, Virginia. You have to register to vote prior to the election. When you show up to vote, you must present photo ID.

Not in my state, no. In Illinois, I wasn't required to show ID. They check your name off a list, and you go vote.

Full PM-box? Change here!

I'm going to walk out of my Science & Society class, get on a communter train, ride an hour to my hometown, and vote for John F. Kerry.

...at least...that's the plan...a whole load of things could change before I get to the polls .

I looked at who is on the ballot in Massachusetts. Ours go in ALPHABETICAL ORDER BY LAST NAME, which really seems to make a whole lot of sense to me...but then again, other states really don't seem to WANT to make sense. Ours goes Bush, Badnarik, Cobb, and Kerry. I'm surprised the Socialist isn't on the ballot: you can register as Socialist in Mass. Nader, though, isn't on the ballot, which takes away the possibility of me trading my vote for a Nader person in a swing state to vote for Kerry. Ah well...

I am, however, voting for one Republican - Frank Cousins for County Sheriff (yes, we still have sheriffs)

The whole voting process in the US is archaic and moronic...

Just look at the whole electoral college thing, it defies reason!

Bush would rather amend the constitution to prevent gay marriage than do something about the US voting system...

As for some people having to queue up to six hours to vote in some places, that is a total farce!

I have NEVER EVER even had to queue to vote in this country and we generally have a better turn out. Perhaps I have been lucky or something but I've voted about half a dozen times in various elections (local/national) in different places at different times, so I would have thought I'dve hit a queue by now...

1.) are you in a big city?
2.) how can you say that there is a bigger turnout than what we'll have this year? the votes haven't even been counted yet, and everyone's predicting this will be on eof the biggest years
3.) what the **** is a "queue"?

I'm amazed at two things here:

1) You actually don't have to show any ID, when you vote

2) The long lines that you guys report. How many places can you go vote?? One per city????

1) Most of my voting has been done in London
2) True, but they are expecting it therefore there should be no queues.
3) I suspect you now know damned well what a queue is by now... What's 'Imperial'? Oh wait, that was that archaic British measuring system found only in the US...

Yeah, all that registering to vote is difficult stuff. Why can't they vote like we do here - here we just go, show the passport, cast the ballot, and are done. No prior registration, no voting certificates or whatever...

I've never shown an ID when voting either. But we do get a voting card thingie in the mail prior to the election and you have to bring it along to the polling place. No registering or anything like that though - everyone 18 or older gets a voting card in the mail.
