Sort of surprised, in the "what the hell is wrong with you people?!" kind of way.

I'm not really sure how to narrow that sentiment down to a single emotion.

You left out 'despairing', although that lasted maybe 2 hours tops, followed by the realization that I no longer give a rat's ass about my fellow countrymen, so that whatever happens to them is fine by me, which was then followed by the next realization that if I don't care about them I make for a lousy communist, but a great republican...

Relieved. Despite all you guys wanting to sit down and have a pow-wow with murderous terrorist, I still think they are better off dead and the countries that spawned them better off democratic. W is the man for the job. The world would have been a worse place if JFK had his way and we sent in the FBI instead of the Marines.

I go with Schadenfreude too, for the simple reason that the Dems still need some lessons in national electibility and how to reach down to the two-digit IQ vote, and four more years of Bush won't bring the US to it's knees, but will help the Republicans achieve what they did the last time they were in power for any length of time - make themselves and their policies so widely repudiated that they didn't see daylight for more than half a century.

Who wanted to sit down and have a pow-wow? All I've been interested in is concentrating on the right rag... er, um, targets, instead of half-assedly spreading ourselves too thin.

And we really don't want those people democratic unless we can guarantee that they'll elect our boys. Democracy is a nice buzzword until you get a strategically important democratic country that is hostile to US interests and policies. If that happens, then, well, you have to give them a little more democracy until they get it right.

MtG thinks that a repug magority in the house is the blame of the president, obviously. He also thinks the last time a repug majority and reug prez coexisted bad things happened. He is, however, forgetting the policy precedes affect, sometimes by years if not a decade.

I wonder how realistically the media in their own countries portrayed the race. Did they spend their time blowing smoke up their readers'/viewers' asses or did they give the straight dope?

DanS made my point for me on Eisenhower.

Though you raise an interesting point.

Will Dubya be the Roosevelt for the right?

Will people fifty years from now, vote for the party of Dubya? Will they be called Dubya Republicans?

From what I could gather, roughly speaking:
It was a close race
Republicans claim Bush is a good leader and Kerry is a flip-flopper who'll open America up to further terrorist attacks
Kerry says he's not Bush and he's got some actual plans

So, how far from the truth am I?

I thought those rotated - that the House and Senate majorities were off from each other by two years. Either way, that was just a bump on the Dem road of Congressional dominance, just like a possum carcass.
