Do you understand how pissed at this I am?

You lose an election, you dust yourself off and set up for the next one, because here THERE IS always a next one. THIS is not worth killing yourself over. EVERYONE who commits suicide has a reason, and HELL YES not every reason is worthwhile. Damn straight I'm going to diss what he did. Should people kill themselves over losing a job, Ted? How about losing a child? Or a God Damn football bet? They do, but that doesn't mean we should stand there and condone it just because they are sad enough to off themselves over it.

It's just an election, get over it!

It's not your place to judge this man as to what is and is not acceptable.

These Buddhist monks also had other alternatives, yet you condone their actions as being okay. Are they cowards also?

Start asking yourself why this man felt so strongly, as there are many others out there who feel just as despondant as he did. Never before have I ever witnessed people who are just outight upset about what happened, and if you think it's just about a damn election, you need to wake the hell up.

In any case, his message got though, whether you like it or not.

And by the way I don't agree with what he did, but at the very least we should listen to what he had to say.

It's not about Kerry losing.

It's about the things this country is doing.

It depends.

I tend to agree with Ted that this man Veal was trying to make a statement. Why he didn't leave a note is somewhat of a mystery.

Most suicides are impulsive, people get the idea and act on it rapidly. Those who think about it through will drop the idea. Yet Veal is different. He had time to think about it, so it was not an impulsive act.

Nah, he'd be candidate only if he'd tried to clean his teeth with the barrel of a gun, and accidentially shoot himself.

There was a guy on Late Night with Conan O'Brien, who had an idea for the US gov, conserning suicide car bombers and utilising them. A hotline, phone number.

"Help me, my life is a pure agony! I have nothing to live for!"
"Calm down, take a deep breath, and tell me, do you know how to switch gears with manual?"

MOst people who commit suicide over external events like an election, or a team losing obviously were facing deep psychological problems beforehand.

HOw exactly did this guy get into ground zero anyways? I guess now that it is a construction site its is not too hard to do....

Ted, there is a huge difference here. THIS IS A DEMOCRACY!

Had Kerry won the election, I would felt "Oh well, well that's that". I would have accepted the verdict of the people. That's the way it works, you fight as hard as you can during the campaign, but once the people have spoken, that's final, we move on, and we deal with whoever we elected.

That is what you all fail to realize. Bush won the election, and the people have spoken, and that is that. This isn't South Vietnam, we have free speech as a means of expressing ourselves to the government, we have the ballot box as a means of expressing ourselves to the government, so we don't need to go burning or shooting ourselves in this country.

There is a difference Ted in the actions of this guy and the Buddhist monk- this action most certainly is NOT protest- protest needs to be seen, its a public act, not a private act. This guy may have gone to somewhere he felt was symbolically significant, but his act was stil a generally private one.

This guy must have had a history of low self-esteem, depression, or deen under great stress that while exacerbated by the election, was not caused by it.

No there isn't. Thee's no guarantee whatsoever that there will ever be another election in the United States. There probably will, but there is a tiny possibility that there won't be.

Sorry I was being logical. It is a fact that Nixon asked whether the military would support him if he mounted a coup d'etat. Fortunately he was told no, they wouldn't.

Let me Godwinize here. In 1933, no one expected the Nazis to seize the government despite winning a plurality. But they used the pretext of the burning of the Reichstag to take control. We had a general say previously that the U.S. was one major terrroist attack away from the end of democracy.

Today, religious nutbags are in control of two branches of government, and their allies control the third (and they mean to take that too). While I expect them to abide by our laws, I at least acknowledge the possiblity that they won't.

You know, sometimes I wish I could be as paranoid as some of the people at Poly. I bet the drudgery of my day to day existence could be alleviated if only I truly believed that Bushitler's agents were poised to swoop down upon me at any given moment...

I think a Kerry administration would've been similar to Carter's, which hardly instilled fear and paranoia in anyone, especially our enemies.

Am I paranoid to think I could be stung by a bee? Acknowledging a possibility is not the same thing as saying a thing is happening or will happen. I'm sorry if that's too simple a concept for you.

But it would have lead to more peace in the ME, if it were just like a Carter admin.
