Put an end to popups!

This whole thread is about somebody that did a stupid thing for a stupid reason.

You give any credit to this guy for what he's done and why he's done it, you will see more idiots doing the same thing.

The best way to stop this stupidity is to laugh at it.

It wasn't the best decision no, but what is most telling is the number of people coming out and calling him, "stupid," "idiot," "coward," etc.

It is stupid, pointing a gun at yourself is a stupid thing to do. Period.

Haven't these guys ever heard the term "don't kill the messenger for the message"?

Suicide over a political election is stupid. Suicide over a girl is stupid. suicide for any reason except for saving another life is stupid. It is the cowards way out. You leave the problems behind while your family and friends are left to pick up the pieces. You on the other hand seem to justify it more because there may be a link between his death and someone you are so vocally against. That is stupid to. There was far more mential issues involved here than protest....

And this is the main problem I have with the people responding here.

Even though I think we can all agree he made a bad decision, the callousness is just outright BS. It all amounts to "suck it up coward!"

You can only do so much for a person. They have to have a desire to be helped. Sure there are plenty of cruel people out there but there are just as many people who would have cared.

Again, I'm not justifying it. I'm saying at least we should listen to why he did what he did. Even if his message was something I disagreed with, we should still listen to it.

Yes you were. YOu were making him out to be the next political activits of the year. That is what people on here got judgemental about. If anything all the ire was directed to your elevation of him to some sort of anit-bush saint.

It's a simple case of a very disturbed young man who ran into a lot of problems, got involved in the political debate and along the way put all his hopes and dreams on something that in the end is transitory. It could have easily been the affection of a young lady or the hopes of the Atlanta Falcons.

No, they were criticising him personally, yet annointing that monk to saint status. You can't say one is acceptable because I agree with his political views and the other I don't because I don't agree with his political views.

Now WHO is making this a political issue???

I think the monk was pretty stupid to. Only thing a person can say about him is that he had a pair of balls for setting himself on fire at an intersection.

It says that an emotionally disturbed man bought into all the crap about the end of the world now that the evil Bush was re elected. That is what it says. Nothing more.

One of my best friends went to his ex girlfriends house and blew his brains out because she had dumped him. What does that say about him? Even though he was a good friend and I had grew up with him, I can still safely say it was extremely stupid and damned selfiish to do what he did.

I have more experience with mentally disturbed people than anyone else on this board, PERIOD. Including people who eventually commited suicide and those that failed at the attempt.

What is most disturbing are the attitudes I see here regarding what he did.

Sava is correct, this punitive, they are weakminded judgemental attitude towards them is part of the problem.

Okay, so say someone in your family tries to commit suicide and fails. What do you do, scold them for being a coward and tell them how stupid they are?

Great rehabilitation program.

And by the way you using your friend as an example, I could get on your case about using it to try and prove a point in the forums, but I didn't.

After discussing it on another forum, I have come to the conclusion that the monk made a fundamentally bad decision, as well.

Yet, that is what you were arguing the most in the beginning.

Suicide is stupid any way you look at it. It doesn't slove problems.

It's selfish and it is cowardly. It's the ultimate "run away from your problems" solution.

That doesn't mean I don't feel for the poor guy, he needed help and didn't get it, for whatever reason.
