No, the moment we move our forces some where else the insurgents who fled will come back. We haven't made any long term gains that I can see. There is the benifit of people knowing we'll come after insurgent held cities but the insurgents know we'll give them two month advanced notice so they'll likely leave long before we get there.

If the coalition (read: Americans) do a better job of rebuilding and helping the populace and if the government is performing the way the people want them to, there just may be a chance.

However I'm doubtful and also even if so, there are historical examples in which the minority has been able to override the majority and come into power. Bolshieks come to mind...

Not really. I was focusing on Berlin '45 because it was the epicenter of the Nazi state. Ditto Falluja and the Sunni triangle. The Berliner's knew they were the enemy and knew they would be treated as such.

Speaking of Imperial storm troopers, here is one fan's idea of Episode III. I think this is speculation, but is it?

http://www.supershadow.com/starwars...ion/ikhwan.html

"Star Wars Episode 3
By
Khairul Ikhwan

Two years have passed since the start of the clone wars both the separatists and the republic have faced major losses. The Kamino Cloning facility was destroyed during the war so no more clone troopers were able to be created by the Republic. Eventually the war ended with victory to the republic.Senator Palpatine gained more support from the Senate. The jedi order has also diminished in number during the war. This led to them training even harder. So no more recruitments were done the surviving jedi had to focus on improving their skills.

We see Anakin Skywalker returned from Naboo. A discussion between the Jedi council occurs. He is assigned to protect Senator Palpatine from any backlashes of the war. Obi-Wan rejects to this as he wants Anakin to complete the trials. But Anakin misunderstands and thinks that his master does not trust him. But the jedi council intentions were to separate Anakin and Padme as Anakin has spend a lot of time with her. They send Obi-Wan to investigate.

During his time with Palpatine, they became close friends. Anakin keeps on complaining on how Obi-Wan keeps holding him back. Palpatine sees the rift between the master and his padawan and decides to use it to his advantage. Palpatine instructs Anakin to go to Sigma Vulcanus to obtain a mystic artifact that will enhance his ability in the force. Count Dooku comes out from the shadows and confronts his master that he should be the one that retrieves the artifact. Anakin is confused by this. But realizes that Palpatine is a Sith lord. Anakin draws out his lightsaber. We see a duel occur between Dooku and Anakin. We see that Anakin has learnt a lot since the last time they faced, but still loses. Palpatine reminds Anakin about what happen to his hand and told him it was Dooku who planned to murder Padme. Anakin rises and strikes Dooku with anger. Dooku becomes overwhelmed. He could not handle the young jedi anymore. He is desperate and throws everything at anakin but in the end gets sliced down. Anakin is amazed by the surge of his ability. Palpatine introduces himself as Darth Sidious.

He informs Anakin that it was the dark side that empowered his body just now. He promise with the artifact he would be invicible. Anakin argues he will not work for a Sith. He tells Anakin that the Jedi have found out about him and Padme. He is going to be expelled. Anakin tracks his master and finds out that he is in Naboo. Rage fills his mind. In Naboo, Obi-Wan finds a sick Padme, who informs him that she is pregnant with a child. Obi-Wan realizes that it is Anakin's child. He and padme head for coruscant to discuss the matter with the council, But Palpatine has already declared a price on all jedi to Bounty Hunters and declared them unfit to protect the republic. Bail Organa rejects to this and hurries to inform the council but by time he arrives the temple of the jedi has been surrounded. We see the jedi completely annihilated totally.

But two of the jedi council members were not in this massacre, Mace Windu and Master Yoda had left to confront Palpatine. There they realize that Palpatine was Sidious. Sidious unveils his new apprentice, darth vader. The two are shocked by this we see a great battle erupt between the four. Sidious and Yoda match up with each other, No clear winner there yet. Vader seems to get an upper hand on Windu. A young Boba fett watches from a far. A jedi starship lands on the platform, out comes Obi-wan who senses danger he runs to the place of action but not before asking an anxious padme to stay. Bail Organa comes back to the palace. He sees Padme in the ship and accompanies her back to the ship. Vader and Windu's duel is ended with Windu being severely injured. His left hand is severed. Vader stops when he sees his old master arrived.

They talk a bit, and Windu leaves when Vader is distracted. He goes back to the ship. We see Sidious gaining and upper hand on Yoda. Vader is very amazed by this. He has never seen yoda take such a beating. Yoda lies down there looking dead before Sidious could react Obi-Wan rushes and carries his master away. Vader runs after them but fails they take off on the ship. Sidious tells vader to leave them and prepare a ship to go to Sigma Vulcanus to obtain the artifact.

On the ship, Yoda, Mace, Obi-Wan, Padme and Bail discuss on what happened to Anakin. They realize they have to bring him back to the light. Yoda and Mace are attended to by Padme. Obi-Wan meditates to get answers, suddenly Qui-Gon's spectre appears and informs him on how to control the living force and tells them to head to Sigma Vulcanus cause Anakin is heading there.

On Sigma Vulcanus, A planet filled with molten lava Vader gains the artifact, he gains a false sense of power. Obi wan comes out to confront him. he tells him to drop the artifact. Vader attacks him easily overpowering his former master. Obi-wan exploits anakin's mechanical hand and regains the upper hand. Anakin drops his sabre.

But anakin intensifies his power in the force with the artifact. There was nothing Obi-Wan could do. Suddenly Mace windu runs out of the ship and knocks he and vader down a cliff into the molten lava. Mace gave up his life. The party were saddened by this fact Padme yells out in pain her contractions are getting stronger. Yoda awakens and tells them to head to Dagobah. Obi-Wan picks up anakin's sabre. They leave.

Soon after another ship lands Sidious comes out and levitates Anakin's severed body there was oly little life in him left. He tells his medical staff to work on him. they give him artficial limbs, body and respirator. On Dagobah, Padme gives birth to a son. Sidious felt a tremor in the force and knew that it could only come from the chosen one or an offspring of his. He felt threaten and tried to find out the source. Due to Dagobah being full of life, Yoda managed to cloud Sidious' mind. Then Padme gives another cry, she has given birth to a daughter. She names them Luke and Leia respectively. Obi-Wan and Bail talk on these two children are their only hope. They should go into hiding and hide themselves from Sidious. Yoda comes in and informs them that he senses Vader is alive. They decide to split the twins up at least they have a better chance to survive. Obi-Wan abandons his name and changes it to Ben. he offers to take the son to tattoine. Bail and Padme take the daughter to Alderaan.

Sidious declares himself as Emperor with Darth Vader, more machine than man at his side. Darth Vader pledges his life towards the emperor. In tattoine, Ben gives Luke to Owen and Beru Lars to be raised, he told them what happened to Anakin and dissappears into the desert. he waits to give Luke the sabre his father once owned when Luke is old enough. In alderaan Padme lives as a servant of the Organa household, she sings to her daughter every night. On dagobah, we see Yoda and the spectres of past Jedi masters looking across to Tattoine and hope.

END"

Well, that is the problem, no? The US has shown itself very capable of fighting battles- but not particulalrly good at policing and keeping a place we took quie. If we were, we would not need to send 15,000 troops into a town 'liberated' 17 months ago.

The point here is that no one in the administration said that the people of the former regime or the people of their redoubts would welcome the Coalition with flowers. No one said that anyone should kill the civilians, except, that is, the leftist propaganda.

1200 people are known to have died in Falluja, what they were is unknown. How many more are dead is also unknown. Seems the Americans consider a "civilian" to be anyone working for them in the Green Zones.

I am always dubious of those numbers- the military has said several times they are not in the business of gathering numbers of the people they kill in Iraq (which is why the military won't even make estimates of total death toll), and yet they always have some ready estimate of the enemy bodycount.

If our troops aren't counting, where the hell do they get these estimates from?
