Not of registered voters. Of people who would be eligible to vote if they decided to register.

Around 55% apparantly. That seems odd. I guess practically every eligible voter is registered?

Motor voter laws have pushed registration numbers up, as was the intent.

No proof whatsoever, so it just comes across as desperate whining. From what I've seen of this Palast guy, that appears to be his M.O.

We do need a better voting system. The machines here in CT are really old, IIRC.

Well, he didn't do a very good job of it here. And reading that article would lead one to conclude that he is just a desperate partisan hack. In short - he shouldn't have written it. You don't make accusations like that w/o evidence, especially if you want to be taken seriously later on.

Our machines in Illinois weren't much better. Old punch machines that I really had to fiddle with to make proper punches. But at least when you're done, they put it through a machine to check for valid punches.

Ours are the ones where you go in, click switches for the candidates you want to vote for, and then move a big lever to register the votes & reset it for the next voter.

Maybe they work fine, and if so, good. But IIRC they're approaching the century mark.

Hmmm... we used those machines last election, but this time, we had the "fill in the circle" ballots, which were then scanned... considering I live in the same town, just a few miles away, you would think we would have the same balloting system...

I agree, but given what he's uncovered in the past, I trust his nose for scandal. That doesn't mean I'm going to run around screaming the GOP stole the election unless I see proof, which is why I hope some Democratic voter in Ohio has standing to sue for a full recount.

Pure speculation. We can't know the results of spoiled ballots.

Also keep in mind that it is counties that usually provide the voting precincts. If this spoilage did take place in heavily Democratic areas, it's probably Democrats that administered.

It should also be noted with Ohio is several areas there showed a greater number of registered voters then the voting age population, with some people registered as obviously fake names such as Micky Mouse.

Well yes, to be honest, I love eastern Iowa much more than western Iowa.

But at least my home state still has an excellent education system -- it beats other states, such as Illinois (not that I deplore Illinois).

We use them in New Jersey.

Maybe so, but they are prpbably the most foolproof system this country has -- no chads, no mis-scans, no multiple selections for the same positions. Just a few clicks and a pull.

Optical scan has the least errors of any other type of system, so far. Eventually they'll work the crooks out of touch screen.
