Putin to build Russia-China-India-Brazil Alliance to Counter US, EU Support Apolyton, buy Alpha Centauri

quote:
Russian President Putin is taking a lead role in putting together the most powerful coalition of regional and superpowers in the world. The coalition consists of India, China, Russia and Brazil. This will challenge the superpower supremacy of America as well as the European Union. The Chinese are concerned about American and European influence over the world. So is India, Brazil and Russia. Russians need Brazil badly. Brazil is in South America in the American corridor. According to Startfor, a strategic think tank, when Russian President Vladimir Putin visits Brazil Nov. 21-23, he likely will talk economic issues with Brazilian President Luiz Inacio "Lula" da Silva. However, Putin has bigger ambitions: He wants to establish a long-term Russian footprint in Latin America in order to expand Moscow's geopolitical influence in the region. Brazil is very open to the coalition concept where these large countries support each other in term of trade, economics, international politics and defense.

According other think tanks, this coalition will have an overwhelming influence over the United Nations. Russia and China are permanent members of the security council. India and Brazil are in the process of becoming the same. In terms of population, the coalition will have three quarters of the world population, largest amount of natural resources and largest pool of technical and scientific talent.

http://www.indiadaily.com/editorial/11-10-04.asp

If this indeed comes to pass, will this result in a collective "oh sh!t" from the first world? What will the US do to stop Brazil from partipating in what is a de facto anti-US coalition?

I thought that maybe you had some historical connections that I never heard of. But I guess the connections doesn't really exists. At least not yet.. interesting.. why Brazil.. Well, I guess this regime is trying to hog all the hot ladies

Nothing like choosing Brazil to make connections with Latin America. Why choose the one LA nation that speaks Portuguese? I'd try for Argentina. They'd fit in just as well in that bizzaro coalition as Brazil would, and that would give the coalition street cred in Spanish LA.

There's no way that a colation involving Russia, China, and India could work. I mean, its not like those countries are geopolitically opposed to each other, right?

I don't understand why India would join such an alliance. I seem to remember they fought a war with China at one point, and I'd doubt they'd be that keen on China with the Maoist insurgency going on in their neighbour Nepal. It'd be a pretty clever bit of diplomacy on the part of Putin to get China on side too, as relations have never been that warm between the two nations even during the Cold War (as they espoused different forms of Marxism). I just don't see what common ground these states have except their dislike (or indifference) towards the US...

Well, China right now might need Russia, but in 30 years it will likely challenge the US by itself. Brazil is always the country of tommorrow, and it will never get there. Plus India, Russia, China are all too close to really be friends.

@vodka: Yes, India and China fought a war in the '60s, and still have unresolved border disputes.

In addition to the Nepalese Maoists, there's a bunch of Maoist guerilla groups operating in India itself too. I don't know if they've got any connection to China these days.

so......which of them is going to foot the enormous 'defence' budget to challenge the US 'global military footprint'?

Let's see...they'd need about 300 surface ships with advanced anti-air and missile tech...

about another 20-30 subs....I'll give the russians this, their subs are OK (despite sinking so often)

5-12 large aircraft carriers

200 very large transport aircraft

350-400 advanced air superiority fighters

a metric ****-LOAD of cruise missiles.

(figures pulled out of u know where)

doesn't look like this is happening for russia....but wait! What a great opportunity to sell russian military junk to doofs in pursuit of some pie-in-the-sky plan! Why, they might even diversify the economy away from oil a little!

nah...that's not it I know Putin wouldn't be so sleazy...

I think it's a good idea, economicaly more then militarily. Three-way balance is best, so if they can pull it off- then good. It'll be a world of three powers, and non-aligned 3rd world nations can cut themselves a better deal between the three. Also, the contortions they'd have to make to work better with eachover will mellow and advance them ?(hopefully they won't end up just corrupting eachother anyway).

I sincerely hope that nobody bothers trying to be like America militarily, just coz Americans want to pay an arm and a leg and a seven-day work week so they can have a giant space-fleet, or Deathstar or whatever it is they're trying to achieve, don't mean the rest of the world should follow suite down the road of mindless super-militarism too.

What's the obsession with military? Who exactly do ou expect them to want to invade? Who do you expect will want to invade them? Stop expecting the world to think like an American think-tank already.

I'm no pacifist, war is natural, but warfare amongst superblocks such as these is too costly and pointless to contemplate. Unless Americas guilty secret is that it is slowly building up it's forces for the day it will invade everywhereatonce or something (wouldn't put it past em).

Economic/Political Power is All, an Economic/Political Alliance between these superblocks and majorblocks represents a strong game-plan for the coming centuary.

And in other news, America signed an alliance today with the Moon and Mars ...

Heh. Seriously, both India and China will, in time, come to dominate Eurasia, IMO. Russia is a has-been power whose population is declining and whose pride rests exclusively on the Strategic Rocket Forces. Good grief. I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if China and India simply *overgrow* Russia's territory naturally in time. What does Russia have? 180 million or so people? And that's shrinking. China and India together have more than 2 billion people.

Russia wants to survive and prosper? They'd better ally themselves with the EU and US. Then Mother Russia can regain a real sort of glory as a powerful, democratic nation. But, hey, if they wanna stick with KGB throwbacks, it's their business, so long as they keep their nukes under control.

Whatever. Our entire military numbers maybe 1.1 million, and if Rumsfeld has his way, that's going to shrink as we get "lighter and faster" at the expense of the heavy hitting and occupation power that's necessary to bring an enemy to heel. I happen to prefer balance, but then again I'm not the secretary of defense.

quote:
Economic/Political Power is All, an Economic/Political Alliance between these superblocks and majorblocks represents a strong game-plan for the coming centuary.

Economic and political power together can account for two-thirds of the pie. But without that crucial third — military power — do tell me how fancy suited bankers and ivory tower economists are going to dominate the world? At some point along the road, someone is going to start shooting, and you'd damn well better be able to shoot back and, using Colin Powell's strategy, go in with overwhelming force. That's human nature for ya.
