hihi I thought the same. I saw Asher's Halo 2 thread and then 3-4 comments about him here taking HL2 as representative for all PC games and comparing them to console games.
This just very much looks like this idea has been in Asher's mind for some time waiting and now it has emerged. Actually it's pretty obvious that it's that way.

Sorry Asher, HL2 is not representative to PC games, there exist others. Civilization for example, which suck on console as we all know.

It's nice that you've found your love with console games, but you have a very strange way of expressing this: everything else becomes crap. It is strange that you cannot love something without touching on others and calling it bad. I sense some personality disorder...

Anyway, I have a PS2 an Xbox and a good PC. I first got San Andreas. Great game, graphics really do suck and controlling sucks. (btw, its not just the graphics, it's also the resolution on a TV screen that really screw things up).

Then Halo 2 came out, graphics seem to be A LOT better and sharper (on the same TV!!!), but.. it's still not smooth, the controller just doesn't give me much freedom, I feel so restricted.

Then.. I got Half Life 2, and yes, it was a pain to get in, took me 2 hours before I could actually play the game. But once I was in, boy was I hooked, this game is brings back the greatness of Half Life in its day. The physics in this game make it's possibilities seem limitless, and I do think the graphics are better than Doom 3's. I don't know why, I think maybe it's just that you're not cramped up so much and that there is daylight.

So my conclusion is that games rule on the PC. Let's keep it that way! The PC has to remain at the forefront of gaming technology because PC's are upgraded weekly/monthly, whereas consoles are updated every 3 years.

HA!

Suffering from ads?

Well, finally got my game validated at 1 in the morning last night, and once I was in, all I can say is wow. I literally spent fifteen minutes just throwing things because it was so amazing to watch the physics engine at work. And with the (almost) highest graphic settings, some of the settings look damn near photo realistic. I've got a lot more game to see, and I have a feeling it's going to keep on pleasing.

That said, Steam still is a terrible idea that was terrible implimented

This "fanboy" owns all 3 consoles and the PC.

My initial impressions with HL2 are mixed. Steam is an absolute ****ing disgrace and ought to be abolished.

The physics in the game are good. But what's the point if the players don't respond correctly? I threw a frickin TV at a guard, and he didn't even budge. I picked up a chair and threw it at a couple of NPCs and they didn't even say anything, it just bounced off of them.

When NPCs walk around, they don't ever "bump" into you. It just pushes you around like you were on ice or something.

I appreciate what they're trying to do with physics and animations (the facial expressions are awesome), but it still feels fake. We're not there yet.

The game is obviously heavily scripted, which is really disappointing to me. I was hoping they'd put in real AI.

Help yourself to an AD-FREE life

Steam does suck big time... but I didn't have any problem loading it. I had pre-loaded most of the game already, and since I play other games on Steam, my Steam was updated. I took about 20 minutes to unlock the game, but it plays great.

It didn't grab me enough to play it at the exclusion of other games. I'm still playing Rome Total War (and will be in a few seconds after I am done posting ).

I would say that Half-Life 2 is not worth the hype, but certainly a decent game on it's own merits.

Full PM-box? Change here!

I can't really think of the last game that really was worth the hype (and please don't anyone say Halo 2, because it's just not true) on any system. Usually, some of the best things are the ones that sneak in under the radar, wihtout the massive marketing machiens attached to them...

My only complaint so far is that there seems to be very little story, but that could change I guess. I assume I'm a little more than halfway through, maybe more.

Has anyone managed to spot the G-man so far? I've seen him twice, but he's always been way off in the distance (I've had to use binoculars). I'm guessing that he's probably been hanging out in a couple other places but I missed him.

Probably not so well, but I bet it's playable. Processor speed and memory are definitely important, also. This is the first game I've seen where bodies never dissappear and marks stay on walls forever. If you crushed say a sink, then shot a piece of it, that piece would stay on the floor forever with a bullet hole in it.

Marks don't stay on the wall forever in HL2.

Last night I shot the machine gun at the walls a lot (I was bored) to test this very thing, and they disappear in the order they appeared once you have a certain number.

I don't know if I have the patience for this game.

I just spent an hour and made no progress, stuck in the same ****ing little spot.

It's on the canal level, where there's some radiation "ponds" and electrical cables dangling from above. I got to one part where the ceiling collapses and blocks the path.

I must be missing something bloody obvious but I can't get out of that damn spot. I've tried stacking boxes, jumping all over, etc. All I managed to do was get stuck a few times, forcing me to load again, and become really frustrated with the lacking response from the jump command sometimes. I've also been annoyed by the "jerky" screen when on top of some boxes.

Hmm... trying to remember the part, but I might need some more specifics. There were a few parts in the canals where there were some grates that could be smashed out or tunnels behind boxes that I missed completely for a while.

And if you're waiting for action, trust me, once you get to Ravenholme, there'll be more than enough...

The electic wire can be pushed so it's swinging (if it isn't already. Walk past it, then crouch through the electrified container. That part should be quick to do.

Bustamike: How good is the plot? Has there been any real surprises so far, or has it been just a typical, predictable half-futuristic POS (like, for example, FarCry was)?
