I'm not entirely in agreement with it, but it does provide a lot of factual information I've missed. In my case the jury is still out on a few things.

Good thoughts on the story... but they fail to address one pretty large thing IMO.

spoiler(highlight to read): Towards the very end when you see Breen talking to the slug thing, he mentions something about needing a new host body. I'm not sure Breen is actually human at all anymore. This is not addressed at all in that link

Oh, good point. I was thinking of sending a complimentary email to the author, I'll ask him that one at the same time too. I would hazard a guess, though, that

spoiler(highlight to read): the Combine overlord ("advisor") was only talking about having Breen's consciousness moved from his human body to another one - something probably common to the overlords, but to Breen this was an abhorrent thought, which made him refuse it, even if it meant trying to survive in a finished Combine world.

At current exchange rates I've been paying over $50 for a long while.

New games today (in the UK) are cheaper than they were a few years back due to the proliferation of internet merchants.

Yeah, it was fun... until I realized there was ony 1 type of enemy for pretty much the entire game. I mean really... after the 1000th CP killed the game was worthless to me. And no sniper rifle- what's up with that?

Well... the citadel and prospekt were fun environments. But there were hours of climbing similar looking stairs in similar looking buildings.

No, there's a rocket launcher for rocket launching. The crossbow is there because it was in the first game and you can pin guys to walls (though not as cool as in Painkiller, it's still cool).

Beat the game after I got it earlier this week.



Wow. It was a truly fantastic game and I think I loved every minute of it.

crossbows had splash dmg.

and rpgs in HL didnt play anything like conventional RLs do in other FPS games.

I'm actually pretty interested in a true HL1 Source mod, not just the crappy 5 minute one released by Valve. There are a few mod teams that are completely rebuilding the game with the Source engine. That should be pretty cool.

OK, I just finished it

...and was disapointed.

While I greatly enjoyed playing HL2, the game was unbelievably linear and I'm not sure how much replay value it has.

HL1 was a better game IMO.
