Actually, you have room for two fishing villages down south, not just one. Those would be St. Simonsville 111 and St. Simonsville 222.

I was thinking the same thing Modo - and I agree - your plan would make more sense. Sometimes I am just not sure the extra city - which goes into the total number for the overall corruption formula, is worth it. Do the others have some thoughts on this.

You have the corruption numbers of a huge map, while the empire gets to a size normal for a standard map. Plus, those villages will be very close to the capital, if you consider the overall map size. So I'd definately go with two, not one.

What is with peoples' fascination with monarchy? In Civ3, Republic is a far superior form of government ... at least in my humble opinion, and in that of the various hardcore modders', who tend to hamstring republic (check some of the CFC mods )

And strictly speaking it was my turn before Smelly, but that's ok. Beta, you didn't seem to catch on that the turn order switched up on you. Read post 1

I'll play this one shortly...

so it wasn't my turn? i got a save a few days ago and it wasnt my turn, so i figured this time someone must of gotten it right

republic vs monarchy? republic and the unit costs would be way too high. the population is just to small for a republic. best to gather lots of units under monarchy, take over the neighbors, then switch to democracy. thats just me, and anyway theres nothing stopping anyone from switching gov

as for the zip, i'm afraid we'll all have to post compressed save files, if we post the save file here at all. this last save file was too big to be posted; there's a 500kb limit.

Hmm? I had 490kb when I dl'ed it (the .sav size 490kb) ... and Huge AU Mod is fine at AD 550 ... but maybe it's just odd. Anyhow, the zipping won't help much for long, as it only saves ~10%. You can Upload the .sav pretty easily ...

Republic: 3 free units per City, 'nough said. Actually, the 6 turns of anarchy or more will stop me from doing it ... I was just wondering, in the other game they did it too. I don't see Democracy working well in this game, too much fighting ... maybe communism?

No, it was my turn. But it's not a big deal. We'll just reverse our order in this turn rotation

10BC (end of Smelly's last turn): Science upped to 90%, currency to 11 turns. Monarchy sold to Spain for 40gp and Construction (they wouldn't take any amount of gold, even 480, and monarchy for both - but would take monarchy for all their gold PLUS either of them. Odd.) Swordsman in Iron Mountain finishes off weak Aztec archer; spearman covers him, and in the interim defeats another aztec archer, promoting to veteran. Incans invade ... without yet declaring war - will attach screenie in a sec.

eek! Incans invade! Well, this is after I told them off. They left peacefully ... sort of. I don't think this will end happily, but hopefully I'll have more time to prepare anyhow.

AD 10: Nothing of note.
AD 30: Incans retreat! (At peace still.) Happy day Aztec spearman defeated 12 of New Port.
AD 50: The Aztecs send in 4 Swordsmen near Iron Mountain. We begin to be concerned ... 4 swordsmen of our own are 1 turn away ... Mount Snoopy founded 69 of Conterberry.
AD 70: Iron mountain successfully defended; only 1 unit lost. Incans move closer to Mount Snoopy. Inca leaves again; monarchy sent to them to appease them, for 80gp.
AD 90: Aztecs are attacked near Iron Mountain; a horseman defeats a swordsman on top of the Iron without losing a hp (?) and then another dies to one (1 hp left) on grassland ... odd. A swordsman also dies to a regular spearman (1hp left) and then another kills it - no loss; 3 total head north towards Texoco.
AD 110: Vet swordsman kills regular swordsman 1 of Texoco, with 1 hp left, and 2 regulars follow.
AD 130: Aztec land 1 spearman 4 of Coningham; destroyed by swordsman, 2hp remaining. Battle of Texoco goes poorly, 1 reg swordsman dies; the other kills a swordsman 1 of him, and a horseman goes to 1hp and retreats taking another down 1 hp.
AD170: Incans leave, again. More units placed on our border to push them away. Aztec spearman, on plains, regular, defeats 2 of our swordsman before succumbing. Ouch.
AD190: Aztec warrior killed 4 of Coningham. Horsman dies to Swordsman near Iron Mountain 1hp left; swordsman kills swordsman on same spot (different one) 2hp left.
AD210: Aztecs get lucky and conquer Coningham for a turn. Retaken immediately and Aztec galley sunk inside ...
AD260: The Siege of Texcoco (Next post!)

No, actually. It's the earlier SoD ... at least i haven't a clue how THAT got here ... but slightly larger (from up further). I eventually filled in the empty spaces culture-wise, and when they 'retreated' due to a wish to avoid war, they went there, and I boxed them in.

McMeadows II - 270-480 AD - vic status Suffering from ads?

Countrymen,

The reign of King McMeadows II was though. Allthough his predecessor was very happy with the situation he left the monachy in 270 AD , the new king wasn't happy at all. The huge stack of Incan military was indeed surrounded by our troops, but they were hopelessly outnumbered.

McMeadows hurried over to meet the Inca in Cuzco taking Snoop Dogg III with him. This nephew of the former king was to be the new gouvernor in the embassy to establish. To have the army of the Inca's fight for a just cause the Inca and king agreed to join forces in an alliance versus the Aztecs including a ROP at the cost of knowledge on currency.

On his way to London the king ordered the troops surrounding the Incan army to make way for their movement towards the Aztecs.

It was busy in 270 AD at the foreign ministry as the Spanish were urged to retreat from English territory. Furthermore the Arabs were interested in our proposal to teach them to sit on a horses back for 48 gold.

At the end of the year the Spanish announced they'd finished the Great Wall in Madrid.

McMeadows II - 270-480 AD - power graph Support Apolyton buy from Amazon

As busy king McMeadows was in the first year of his reign, the remainder of it was close to dull. The former King had given out a grant to study the concept of Feudalism. This was going to take a long time. As there were no indications given as for how long the scientists were allready working on this project, the king decided to let them continue, meanwhile feeling that such enterprises should have been undertaken after libraries had been built to hurry the process.

McMeadows has been focussing on training new troops and building improvements that would stimulate growth, economy and where usefull the expansion of our cultural border.

330 AD Texcoco captured by Inca's. Payed with currency for gems to the Ottomans. Intelligence reported that the Spanish have feudalism.
360 AD Kyoto finishes Hanging Gardens. Intelligence reported that the Spanish have monotheism.
450 AD Aztecs recaptured Texcoco. Received 75 gold for construction from the Ottomans. Exchanged Feudalism for Republic + 12 gold with the Inca's. Agreed over peace with the Aztecs at 7 gpt + 151 gold + worker.
460 AD However the Aztecs didn't want to retreat so war it was again. Acquired Engineering at the cost of Republic + Feudalism from the Ottomans. Received 14 gpt + 31 gold for Engineering with Spanish.
470 AD Spanish demanded 19 gold, which was granted. News got around that the unknown Egyptian civilization had been destroyed

McMeadows II - 270-480 AD - map Put an end to popups!

In the year 480 AD, the reign of McMeadows II comes to an end. Allthough it should have lasted 15 turns, it seems to be a tradition to last a little longer. Most action was undertaken by the Incas and Aztecs, who fought many battles. Our army was not sufficiently strong to really make a punch. The idea to have the Inca's do the dirty work didn't start out really well. Texcoco appeared to be heavily guareded by numerous spearmen. As a consequence, instead of capturing the city right in front of the Inca's we ended up having done the dirty work. But the Inca's repayed us several times when Aztec troops were slashed when they were about to attack our troops or up to 3 times were to cut off our iron supply. In the end the Inca's couldn't keep the resupply of troops up to par with the losses and alltough they are still fighting, the Aztecs are now at our door. In Iron Mountain there are a few MI's that can still be moved this turn, as well as some catapults. Mind the though Aztec spearman that resisted several attacks and has penetrated into our territory.

Work on Literature has now been started 20 years ago ( 2 turns).

Sorry about the turn screw up.

As to Monarchy - and I know it doesn't apply here, but in MP where there is some serious warring going on - it works well. I wished I had used it in Misfits for example. I am continually fighting WW and it costs - and I am not sure the extra gold compensates.

Now in a SP game, where you have more control, and can get the AI to attack you, I agree, republic is a better choice.

BUT - we are England. So we will be a monarchy. And secondly, let's handicap ourselves a bit. In fact - I think we should eventually switch to Communism.
