Jack Nickolson, Robert de Niro, Kevin Spacey, and several others - IMO, they are enough to make even a movie with awful script and/or direction at least average. And if the script doesn't simply suck, it's bound to be a good movie.

Wait a second. It seems people are putting down favorite actors rather than those who actually make good movies. Most of Walken's movies have been crap (probably more than half). I think he's an awesome actor, and will see him in almost anything, but he makes crap more often than not. I could say the same for Robert De Niro and Nicholas Cage. I don't even trust Jack Nicholson to make good movies anymore.

Those I TRUST to make good movies:

Chris Cooper
Daniel Day-Lewis
William H. Macy
Liam Neeson
Alec Baldwin
John Cusack
Denzel Washington
Ian McKellan

And it also seems actresses are severly unnoticed

Gwyneth Paltrow
Uma Thurman
Kate Winslet
Rachel Weisz
Dame Judy Dench
Cate Blanchett

Almost all of those mentioned already. My humble addition is Bruce Willis: He's not a solid seal, but he's a very good sign for a movie.

I just don't see anything special in most actors...

Ok, the few movies I've seen with Jack Nicholson are great, but I've only seen two of them... Most actors mentioned here are just average... they've been in some good movies, but they've just not impressed me enough to be on my "have to check out this actors next movie" list...

And from other actors posted here are some that has done many good movies, but I didn't want to mention them since they were already talked about in this thread

And what's crap about Leslie Nielsens movies? If you don't like that kind of humor, that's fine, but a lot of people do... I only know very few people IRL who doesn't like that kind of humor...
And what about Jackie Chan? The most well-liked martial arts ekspert since Bruce Lee... I have yet to find a person who likes martial arts movies, but hate Jackie Chan...
And I can't see anything about bad about Christopher Lloyd either... ok, he haven't had that many different types of roles, he mostly just plays the guy where you can't tell if he's a genious or insane, but you don't put him into a leading role either... but that doesn't change the fact that most of "his" movies are funny (if you like that insane kinda humor)

The only one there's left is Van Damme, and I know he's not a neutral guy... either you hate him or you like him... He might not be the best actor around, but for martial arts scenes I've only seen few actors who could do better ( = more interesting) martial arts scenes than what he could do (too bad there's not much of this in his recent movies)

Yes, I love crazy comedy and I love martial arts... but what's wrong with that? This doesn't mean that I don't watch other kinds of movies? I've seen a lot of horror movies I like, I've seen a lot of different types of comedies I like, I've seen a lot of dramas I like, etc etc etc...

As you can hear I'm very tired of hearing that others don't like what I like, but I can't change what I like and what I don't...

Adagio:

quote:
CL News reports that Christopher Lloyd is set to star in an Australian film called "Wallflowering". He will be the male lead opposite Christine Lahti. The two will play a married couple (Cliff and Peg) living in the 70's, who find themselves out of touch with the society of the time. The two are pressured by friends and workmates to try different things, only to discover that they enjoy being an ordinary couple after all. The two are amatuer ballroom dancers, and music and dancing will be heavily featured throughout the film. They will be joined by notable Australian talent such as Wendy Hughes and Sigrid Thornton. The film to be directed by Sarah Knight and produced by Todd Nelson is based on a popular play written by award winning Australian playwright Peta Murray. Shooting dates to be announced shortly.

Also, I should add Paul Giamatti to my list. He is a very underappreciated actor who has made pretty much nothing but good movies since "Man on the Moon" in '99

Sean Connery!

By far.

The only dud I can remember is the LoEG.

Also, what about, the start of Mr. Holland's Opus?

Richard Dreyfuss is a great actor.

He was hilarious in the 5th Element, though if you aren't old enough to have lived through the "Prince" era it might lose something in the translation.
