I've been looking for land in Montana because of this thread. I can't buy it of course, because I'd have to pay taxes on it. I'm going to reside on public land.

But what I'm worried about is internet access. How can I get internet access (so I can post at poly) without getting an ID card and having the goverment track me?

I would also need a good source of electricty to run my computer. I can't connect to the grid for obvious reasons, I will need some sort of portable generator...

What exactly is the differance between this and your social security card/passport/driver's licence/credit cards/etc?

Credit Cards are actually the most intrusive of all the above, because the Federal Government can track your movement.

All this does is combine alot of other souces of infomation the government has on you into a single efficient source, which will probobly serve you better for the current government services you already consume without thought now. If they government wants your information, it would have it now without the card.

You guys are parinoid (which doesn't mean people are not after you).

By law, your social security number is only to be used by the SSA. The fact that everybody asks for and or/gives out their SSNs is a collective failure to care about this issue. But the SSN is not a national ID card, and is actually proscribed by law from becoming one.

Barely anyone in the US has a passport -- 15-20% atr most. Moreover, passports tend NOT to be accepted as an ID, at least not without a fight; I used to date a woman who had no driver's license and so presented her ppt whenever asked for ID; most people treated her as if she were either nuts or trying to put something over on them.

Driver's licenses are issued by states; credit cards are issued by private institutions; both are voluntary.

That's the difference.

The bill doesn't make a national ID card apparently, just enforces standards among the states drivers liscenses that will in effect make them national ID cards.

It's funny... 20 years ago, Reagan was adamantly against a national ID card (when plenty in his administration was for it). Now, it's being pushed by Bush.

And if Reagan was alive, he'd still be against a national ID card.

Bush et al have little choice, they have to do crap like this because if they don't and we get attacked again, they will be blamed. Partisanship and political opportunism drives this nonsense, always has, and always will... "My opponent voted against 'the Patriot Act' and would make it easier for Al Qaeda to attack us"...

That's why government grows, everytime something bad happens there's a group of politicians blaming their opponents for not placing our security in federal hands. And when federal security is breached and something bad happens? More federal controls... That's why wars are so destructive of liberty, and "perpetual" wars, like the drug war and now terrorism, do the most damage.

I'm not angry with Bush et al for this legislation, I'm mad at the 2 parties for traveling the world creating enemies. I will never vote for these globalists and Ron Paul is about the only Republicrat I could vote for, of course, he's a libertarian.

We got into WWII and as a result we inherited a divided Europe and the Cold War, so naturally we started screwing around in the Middle East because of oil and Israel. Our mistake was assuming the role of "superpower" just like Rome and now the barbarians are at the gates...

What the hell is so bad about ID cards?
We have had it for ages here and I never heard of any problems with it, it's actually very convenient

Will your ID cards contain some specific sensitive information or similar stuff, besides identifying that you are really you?

We could just do away with the separate Social Security card then, and simply have our Social Security number on the new National ID card.
