Actually, ships drive me crazy in S2. An unoccupied island in the middle of nowhere that is completely safe? Better take our only general to fill the barracks there. Oh, and 40 gold coins. So what if the main island only has that many coins and are actually using them to train people?
That and they sometimes tend to crash / get stuck on a particular point of land and never move again. Thats why I build multiple ships. |
Hmm, havent seen that yet. All i can say is that in 1602, the only other game i can think of thats comparable in having 'citybuilding' type activities across multiple islands, moving needed supplies from island to island was excruciating - the AI didnt do it, - you either had to control the ship, or set up a standard pattern (ship a goes to island b with tobacco, picks up wood for island c, drops the wood, picks up tobacco, rinse and repeat, etc). Ships were fairly costly to build and support, IIRC, so you never had very many, and the so it was particulalry important to conserve shipping space.
By contrast in settlers2 ships are cheap, and the AI does a decent job of using them, though there are times id like to manual override.

Are you enjoying it LotM? How are you finding the graphics, considering its age and all. Is it a a fun game? Or do you prefer the more 'realistic' approach of games like Imperialism? did you get the sound/music working? Oh and one last thing - not sure if it came up, but did you play the first game ever, or it this a new 'settlers' experience for you?
(sorry for maybe coming across like the inquisition! ) |
The graphics - I can live with the graphics, though id prefer better, I think - I think im missing something by playing without the sound, though
Fun - it has its moments, but its not on my top ten list.
Imperialism - i dont really put it in that category I compare it more with RTS like AOE, or citybuilders like Caesar3. Closest comparison is 1602, also a German game, interestingly enough. Vs 1602, it has its pros and cons. While my favorite games are the historical serious ones, i can get enjoyment from others. Im not sure this one has the ideal approach, but its definitely interesting.
Sound - nope, never got it to work
First Settlers - yup, ive never played the original, or the later ones.
