Do you really remember the Falcons last year?

Yes, they were utterly dreadful. All hope went out of the team and the city.

quote:
Without him, they lost 5 games by a single score.

Late TDs when the game was already decided don't really do much.

quote:
The defense was absolutely horrible.

That happens when your offense has mastered the art of the 3 and out.

quote:
Once he came back, he completed less than half his passes, was sacked more than any other Falcon QB (on average), and turned the ball over more than he scored. The difference? His defense made plays and they pulled out the close wins.

Isn't that the common refrain! It's all about the defense!! Of course it was exactly the same defense as it was all year in 2003... but don't let that stop you.

The Vick haters will use every argument they can while Vick just wins. Of course this is coming from the same person that claimed Vick had 30 turnovers this year.

No, it's not the same defense. 3-4, 4-3, 3-4, 4-3... notice the 4 and 3 are reversed? I'd be surprised if you did.

So wait... they changed from a 3-4 to a 4-3 in the MIDDLE of 2003? Really? So then why did the 'defense step up' right after Vick got there. Did they decide since Vick is back, let's totally change up the defense?! Wow, how ballsy by Reeves

All this Vick is overrated talk, coming from everywhere, just cements my belief that Vick is actually underrated .

Oh yeah. I forgot. Yes, he sucks plenty.

One more thing to think about. The Rams have a whole knew type of defense this year with a new coordinator. That second game they were particularly bad. They have steadily improved throughout the season, although they definitely need more interceptions.

You were talking about 2003 to 2004, and there being no defensive difference. 2003 = 3-4, 2004 = 4-3.

The defense was awful in 2003, and the new scheme fitted their talent in 2004.

In 2003, the Falcons won when their defense played well, and in 2004 it has been the same again now they actually have a scheme worth the paper it is written on.

In 2003, Vick was crap, and was lucky not to have been pointed out when that defense was awful. In 2004, he's still crap, but the defense is actually playing well.

Suffering from ads?

I have no idea how Atlanta has such a good record. They are a very mediocre team, IMHO. They are no better than the Rams. The upcoming game should be close to the end, with only a slight edge to Atlanta due to its home field advantage. However, if Atlanta is down in the final minutes, I would be shocked if they could move the ball down for a necessary score because Vick is not a good quarterback even if he can run the ball.

The more interesting game is the Vikings-Eagles game, as Philly has really stunk up the field recently and the Vikings are showing some life now that Randy Moss is playing better.

The reason the Falcons have such a good record is that they have played only 2 winning teams.

I've got my hopes on the Rams D. I know the offense will play a lot better than they did in the regular season game. They stopped Alexander cold last week, and they should be able do the same thing against Atlanta, but Vick is dangerous, and we probably really have to hope that he doesn't have nearly the game he did in the last meeting. We really need interceptions.

Um.. no I wasn't. We were talking about why Vick went 3-1 in 2003 while without him they went 2-10. I responded to your statement:

Once he came back, he completed less than half his passes, was sacked more than any other Falcon QB (on average), and turned the ball over more than he scored. The difference? His defense made plays and they pulled out the close wins.

HaHa! I just heard what the Pats are doing. Instead of covering the field, the Pats have let the rain soak the ground so that the field will be muddy. Ah, the benefits of home field advantage .

It will hurt their offense just as badly. Perhaps make the game a turnover battle. And as badly as people rcriticize the Colts D, they kick ass in the turnover battle.

Honestly, I don't know where anyone gets the idea that making the field wet to stop the Colts O is a good idea.

It will be an intersting game. I don't give much credence to the last two outing the Eagles had as they weren't playing starters. But it was noticeale against Dallas how much they need T.O.

I think without TO they are essentially the same team as last year, in a noticeably weaker conference.

Even without TO, they may still be good enough to make it to the SuperBowl. But it sure is going to be tougher for them without him.

With TO, they're 3rd best in the NFL, or a strong 4th. Without him, they're a weak 4th at best.

Help yourself to an AD-FREE life

I'm back after my week break.

I think I'm done with predictions. I really thought the Chargers could advance to the second round (and lose there), but I was wrong. And I really thought the Seahawks would win this time.

I really feel like a bonehead for making those predictions.

Agreed, which is why I mentioned the significantly weaker NFC. Regardless whoever takes the NFC, they will have a major uphill battle in the superbowl as Pats, Steelers and Indy to my mind are far superior than anything the NFC has to offer at present (assuming Eagles w/o TO that is)
