Yes, but the Galactica has to carry it's own air and water supply, unlike a modern naval vessel.

I didn't feel the way you felt about it. Somehow, a whole bunch of ships in the distance doing nothing didn't feel "oppressive". Maybe if they actually showed some of the battle scenes, it would be cool. But they showed the ships in the distance doing nothing. How the **** is that "oppressive"?
One thing I did like was when Boomer was fighting her Cylon instinct off. I thought that was good. |
For me, Battlestar Galactica represents the best type of Science Fiction. That is social science fiction. How would people react when introduced to new conditions. The idea of having to stay awake five days straight because the robots are on your ass or a basic human need on earth or space: water. Science Fiction is about more than space battles and made up pieces of equipment.
To some people the greatest writers of science fiction have been authors like Robert Heinlein, Isaac Asimov, Philip K. Dick, and Arthur C. Clarke not James Cameron and Gene Roddenberry.
