At the start of the mini-series it says that the Cylons had been defeated in a war and were imprisoned on one planet. The girl spy who sabotaged the Colonial military computer system is seen smooth talking her way out of the blockade.

That's not what happened at all. At the start of the miniseries, it says that the Cylons revolted against their human masters and a long, bloody war ensued that was a stalemate. Finally, they reached peace terms that the Cylons would leave the 12 colonies. They did so, completely disappearing. A space station was built in neutral territory for the purposes of diplomatic meetings. Every year, the humans would send a representative, but the Cylons never would show up. For 40 years, nobody heard a thing from the Cylons.
The scene you reference was the female Cylon showing up at one of the yearly "summits," which shocks the human, since he had been expecting no one, as usual. The Cylons then blow up the station, which is the start of their attack on the 12 Colonies.

There were indications given in the movie and on the website that the Cylons fighters aren't manned anyway, but remote controlled--although, what that means wrt to a robotic race, I'm not sure. But if there is a difference to the Cylons, then it would explain why they are willing to use fighters as fodder while the manned capital ships stand off.
I don't think we can say that the Cylons don't care about their losses. Considering that the plot of the show is going to make them out to be religious zealots, there isn't any reason (so far) to think that they have no regard for their own casualties. |
The fighters are quite expendable, but they are expending them for nothing. I'm watching the show, and either the base ships have resupply ouposts all along the Galactica's course so far, or they are slowly using up their fighters and missiles and eventually will have to give up chase on the Galactica.
By the way, the fighters probably are manned, just not by a bipedal robot, just a cpu. No point in doing remote control if you can make a fairly small intelligence unit that will have to be somewhere. I don't think that they have instant communications so controlling ships that were lightminutes away from the fleet would get problematic(and the signal would be a dead giveaway for where the ships were). Whatever is in Baltar's head is probably the same deal, hedonism bot stuck a chip with a version of her on it.
Gepap: They only have a zero chance of survival if the Cylons hunt them down and kill them, otherwise they will explore, expand, expoit, and exterminate.
as for the religion thing, I think that is psy-ops more then anything else. just wierd all the meat bags out.

No, I think that the master CPU is referred to as "god". The female torturing Baltar seems to be trying to convert Baltar so that they can use him. Of course, it's also possible that their is nothing planted in Baltar's head and he's simply goin mad.

still even if they can manufacture fighters themselves that means that the resources required have to be readily available which means mining colonies/outposts or the ship has to go on its own exploration/survey missions for hydrogen, oxygen(fuel perhaps),iron, aluminum, unobtainium, etc. |
Maybe that's why they eased off on their pursuit of the Galactica.

Aren't there supposed to be only 12 types of humanoid Cylons? The hot blond is reffered to a "6", then there is the "Boomer" type, the guy left at Ragnarok, and the man who was on Colonial One.
Perhaps the "original" Boomer was indeed a humanoid Cylon. Even though she seems to show up on Caprica to help her XO did we actually see her go backe for him? Where did she get the extra Raptor? Wouldn't questions have been asked if her ship was missing even though she was on board the Galactica?
Intersting that some of the humaoid Cylons seem to be defecting. Perhaps it has something to do with the device found on Galactica's Ops room being removed?
