The kill bots don't have Plan Bs, because their Plan As are perfect. Thus, when something goes wrong, it takes a moment for the Cylons to catch up. Fortunately for the humans, the Cylons have Civ AI.

Ooooohhhhh Kill Bots! I wonder what the Cylons will do when they intercept Earth TV transmissions like "Robot Wars" and etc. I'm sure they'll be properly outraged.

Did anyone notice that the robotic Cylons looked alot like the big robots in "Attack of the Clones"? I wonder if they bought the graphics from Lucas.

Avatar Enlargement: We've got the solution

As far as ship sizes, go here:
http://www.scifi.com/battlestar/ships/
Basestars are 5,100 meters* at their longest. Galactica is about 4,600m long.
*Just call them 'meters' m'kay?

Use your spoilers, people.
My take on a few points:

spoiler(highlight to read):
As far as the Cylons persuing the Galactica, I think it's safe to assume that the Basestars aren't completely self-sufficient, that the only reason they were keeping up with the fleet was that they still had tracking capability before the destruction of the Olympic and didn't want to fall too far behind before losing that signal. That they dropped back indicates to me they didn't have the resources to continue giving chase at the same pace, instead opting to activate the sleeper agents. Perhaps the Olympic transmited an activation code to the sleeper agents before its destruction. It's reasonable to assume that the fleet was jumping in a random fashion in an attempt to elude the persuers to begin with, gave that up with the attacks every 33 minutes to simplify jump calculations, and will probably return to random jumps now that they won't be so easily tracked.

As far as the Basestars attacking in '33' I feel it's reasonable to assume it was the same 2 ships each time since they were tracking the Olympic's movements and the fleet had long since moved beyond the 'red line' into uncharted space. If they Cylons had more resources spread everywhere, and the fleet still hadn't been finished off after 5 days, why just 2 ships each time? Because they were the only 2 ships remotely near enough to give chase.

As far as colonies and whatnot, I really dislike the idea of star-faring races limiting themselves to a single star system. In the case of the Cylons, they'd probably been planning this attack since the Armistice 40 years prior. For them NOT to be all over the place just bugs the crap out of me. For the "red line" to be so close to the 12 Colonies bugs me even more. How is it that a species clearly capable of extended interstellar journeys on ships not meant for that purpose hasn't charted every last star within a 100 lightyears? How is it they havn't colonized many more worlds? Or are we to learn they have in a later season? I've read to episode spoilers for this season and it doesn't look like it.

As far as the device removed from OPS, that's a good point. The sleeper agents have to be activated somehow. Obviously, they were the Cylons' 'Plan B' in case the tracking signal on the Olympic was lost. As Number Six said, it wasn't her job to place that one on Galactica, so there may be more. The device in OPS was removed before Boomer carried out her first mission, so I think it's reasonable to assume there are.

As far as Human Cylons, we know from the miniseries that multiple units of at least 3 of the 12 models were built. Probably one version was deployed to each colony to avoid inadvertant recognition and detection. We know that there are at least 2 or 3 Boomer units: The one on Galactica, the one at the station, and possibly a third one on Occupied Caprica though she may be the one from the station. I think it's reasonable to assume that these 12 models were based on real Colonials who were abducted by the Cylons and copied. The Cylons are entirely mechanical, so they would need samples of real DNA to make Human versions of themselves. We know from the miniseries that they are biologically indistinguishable from real Humans except for a few unnatural compunds found after cremation. Clones whose memories are copied from the originals and who have some buried programming activated remotely or possiblly timed-activation.

Agreed. If the BS was 4000+ meters, it would be rather silly that it only had a crew of 2000.

The base stars are about a mile long, which is about the same size as an Imperial Star Destroyer from Star Wars.

Someone mentioned that all 12 of the colonies were in the same system? Why would ships such as luxery liners and the Colonial One have a ftl drive if all the colonies were in the same system?

Apparently the system was duel-star (or multiple stars), so it was actually 2 solar systems.

The travel time from Earth to Mars is several months, so among a group of 12 planets, there could be distances that would take over a year to travel with sublight engines.

Still, it was mentioned that BSG hadn't used it's ftl drive in 20 years, so I guess that the ftl drives on all ships are mainly for emergency purposes.

So a Base Star is only 15 times larger than a modern day Aircraft Carrier? In the original series ships and the like seemed to be portrayed on a much bigger scale.

Also in the original series the Twelve Colonies were the most developed and populated of the Colonial Civilization and there were MANY settlements of humans outside it that the fleet encountered and knew of.

I guess the ftl drives could have been used to fight the war with the Cylons and they haven't needed it sense.

I was speaking in general response instead of quoting directly. We just don't really know what the directors/producers are basing the measurements on.

The measurement on the website are indeed given in feet. In case of the Battlestar Galactica, the length is 4640 ft, which is indeed only 5 times larger than a modern aircraft carrier, but the width is given as 1820 ft, which is 8-10 times larger than modern aircraft carriers and the height as 580 ft, which is 3-4 times higher than an aircraft carrier is from keel to mast (of which the island represents what, 2/3? 1/2?). So in terms of volume, the Galactica is still easily 200 times bigger than an aircraft carrier. Basestars are somewhat longer than the Galactica at 5100 ft, so presumably the other measurements are also in the same order of magnitude.

Those seem like reasonable measurements to me: if they were much bigger, it would be hard to believe that one could build entire fleets of them with the resources from only a handful of planets...

The fighter wing seems prety small, so the amount of crews to service them seems minimal to keep them going.

Perhaps the size vs crew difference can be explained away by the fact they needed to carry as much ordinance as they could get out of Ragnor. I couldn't guess about regular supplies, other than they've got a lot of cargo space. Or an alternate explaination is the ship survived a direct hit by a nuclear torpedo. That's a lot of armor between the blast and the crew.

Perhaps, but they had precious little time before the rest of the fleet moved on, so they probably just jetisoned the survivors to make room for the nukes.

And it was still a directly-on-the-hull hit by a nuke. A little bit of the blast kills you dead without proper armoring. Enough of the blast reach the ship to send it into an uncontrolled spin. That's a lot of mass to move about like that.
