Israel, it was your threat to attack cargo ships that got my attention. As a major distributor of uranium, that sort of threat is something I must take seriously.
We will be sending representitives to Paris to attend this nuclear arms summit. While Australia supports nuclear power and research, Australia is wholely against nuclear weapons.

To: International Atomic Energy Agency and Untied Nations
We too share the concerns of Isreal and France in regards to nuclear profileration. We though condemn the actions that Isreal is planning to shoot down plans or sink ships carrying uranium to Saudia Arabia. We say to ensure that Brazil and Saudia Arabia do not start nuclear weapons programs that the International Atomic Energy Agency should send inspectors and closely monitor all nuclear energy programs in both naitons.
To: Saudia Arabia
Why do you need a nuclear energy program when you sit on one of the worlds largest oil reserves? We support the spread of peacefull nuclear engery technology, but this concerns CHina greatly. If you would agree to inspectors from the International Atomic Energy Agency to monitor your nuclear energy program we would be put at ease, and I am sure the rest of the world would be as well.
To: United States
We have not heard back form you as regards to our request to meet with your president over North Korea. If you do not respond soon we will be with drawing this offer to help you with this issue. China wishes to strenghten its ties with the United States, not to distance our two great nations.

Last minute Australian orders: Create a new branch of the military devoted to peaceful interests. This branch counts as military service, but is entirely peaceful, providing an alternative for pacifists who want to get good job training, money for college, and an exciting career choice. This branch will be known as AussieCorp, and AussieCorp's first task will be to exploit Brazil's natural resources. Proceeds from AussieCorp will directly fund the Australian Government.

Also last minute, will understand if it doesn't make it into this update: Australia had traded depleted Uranium to America in exchange for technology, begin upgrading to Future Age tech. This deal took place over PM, it wasn't posted.

Brazil-Orders:
-With the help of Australian and French scientists, begin upgrading our nation's technology from Aging Modern to Modern through government investments into R&D for industry and infrastructure.
-Begin nuclear power production expansion and improvements, with the help given from France.
-Begin construction on the highway system, as shown earlier, to improve infrastructure (and hopefully the economy).
-Open up some mineral-rich and other resource-rich lands for development by Australian and French private and/or public interests, as guaranteed in earlier negotiations.
-Begin Uranium for Oil trade with Saudi Arabia. |
I assume you're referring to the "modern to future modern" bit, but why are you jumping on me and not Jonny? I just assumed since no one commented when he did it, that was the way to go about it. If I've missed something I apologize, but I'm kinda lost. I do apologize for the aura of newbieness I seem to exude.

Thanks for clearing that up, and let me rephrase my earlier post: "Australia will trade depleted Uranium for technology, in an attempt to improve our technological abilities." Does that work?

CNN News Yearly Update
Year 2006
Now for our national news stories.
United States:
Once again a record hurricane season has damage the Eastern US coast. The states of Florida, Louisiana, Georgia and Texas have all been hit with hurricanes. The greatest damage was in Texas where damage is estimated to be in the billions. State officials are asking the Federal government to declare a state of emergency in all the states that were hit so that Federal Aid can begin to be given out to the victims of the disasters. Many republicans have begin to criticize President John Kerry, saying he has been slow to respond to the disaster. At this time we are still awaiting a statement from the white house.
In other news, the Department of Home Land Security has announced a huge plan to step up training of the nation’s police forces and upgrading equipment with new armor using depleted uranium, once used only in military equipment. Officials from Los Angles, New York and other large cities welcomed the news of the program and have already drawn up plans to prepare to further train and recruit more people into their police forces. Many Republicans say that the program though does not go far enough to protect the nation against terrorist treats like biological weapons or nuclear weapons at the hands of terrorist. Despite this the President’s job approval ratings have gone up and are now at 61%.
In economic news, the US economy continues to grow at a steady pace of 3%. Although many economists now warn that the out of control budget deficits must be put under control and that the Federal government must cut spending or raise taxes. They point to the fact that the value of the dollar continues to decline, and is now one US dollar will trade for only half a Euro. They also cited concerns that this may cause out of control inflation if something is not done soon.
Also Australia and the United States have formed a new alliance called the Morgan Freedom Alliance. The United States has also begin the trading of much of its military technology to Australia. Many in the Senate have stated concerns over this, even though it is being given to an ally to the United States.
Now on to international news.
Russia
Amid news of the Russian election scandal, international investors have begun to move their investments out of Russia due to fears of instability and possibility of civil war breaking out in Russia. Recent figures show that the Russian economic growth has slowed to 6%. Many economists are hopeful that once the current dispute in the election results have been resolved that Russia is set for record growth in the year 2007.
In other news, their was a break in one of Russia’s old Bio weapons labs. Russian officials are saying that there is no cause of concern, since no deadly diseases were being currently stored at the lab. CNN has learned though from and unnamed source that this was incorrect and that small pox, e-boili, and other deadly diseases were being stored there and were from Soviet Union massive bio weapons program conducted in the 1970’s and 1980’s. This source also tells us that this may now be in the hands of terrorist want to strike against western nations. We will bring you more details as they become available to us.
Middle East
Violence continues to escalate as terrorist attack Israel and Saudi Arabia. Terrorist have sunk two cargo ships containing uranium ore on its way from Australia to Saudi Arabia. No terrorist group has yet to claim responsibility for the attack.
In Israel with the imprisonment of Mahmoud Abbas the new President of Palestinian people, terrorist groups in Israel vow revenge. In a wave of suicide bombers, 20 civilians were killed on a bus in Jerusalem, and 10 soldiers were killed at a border check point when they tried to stop a suicide bomber. Also the Palestinians have begun mortar attacks on Israeli settlements in the West Bank and the Gaza strip.
Despite the increase in violence, thousands of Jews continue to come to Israel to make a new home there. This is due to a new campaign by the Israeli government get more Jews to move to Israel.
Europe
With the nations of France and Germany starting tax and law reforms in their respective countries, the economy of Europe is now on the rebound. Also the Euro continues to raise in value as more and more international investors begin to bring their money to Europe to invest. It seems now that Europe as whole is now turning around.
South America
Brazil continues to make progress in turning it economy around, but much more work needs to be done, say one economist. They say that the new highway system that is planed and the new trade agreements that Brazil has secured will help, they do not go to the underling problems that have slow economic growth in Brazil. They say that due to government corruption and laws that inhibit business growth that these measure will only go so far in helping the economy of Brazil rebound.
Millions of out of work men in Brazil have begun to line up at government offices trying to see if they can find work on the new highway project. Also new nuclear power plants are now being built through out Brazil with the help of France. There is now a growing movement in Brazil though that is opposed to nuclear power and many protesters are showing up at the new construction sites trying to prevent the workers from working on the new plants.
Also several mining companies from France and Australia are now being to survey new sites to being mining Brazils raw resources.
Australia
Australia joins the nuclear power movement, announcing that it will start construction of several nuclear power plants through out of country. Already environmental groups and people that will be living near the nuclear power plants have begun to protest. They say that nuclear power is dangerous for their own health and the environment.
With news that the Australian government is raising taxes, many people are protesting this move as well. “I don’t think the Prime Minister gets it. First he gets the idea that putting nuclear power plants all over Australian is a good idea. Then he raises taxes so that the people of Australia, the ones they don’t want the damn things in the first place, have to pay for it! I say we need a new prime minister that will listen to the people and do what is best for Australia!” This was a statement take from a person off the street.
Asia
North Korea has announced that it has restarted its nuclear weapons program and will test one of its nuclear weapons this Summer. It is also suspected that North Korea has begun to sell long range missile systems to Iran as well. At the UN China and other nations have called a meeting of the Security Council to meet about this issue.
The government of China has started to move troops closer to North Korea and is on high alert.
UN
Representatives from nations all over the world are meeting in Paris today to discuss what measure that can be done to stop the spread of nuclear weapons.

OOC: No trouble. Thanks Jack! Is news from any other countries coming? What about Gabon?
BIC: NAMELESS AUSTRALIAN NEWSPAPER #12
Several statements from the office of the prime minister were issued today. The first was in reference to the sinking of Australian cargo ships containing uranium ore. "This is wholely unacceptable. We may need military escorts on this, and the idea that the no terrorists have claimed responsibility is quite fishy, if you ask me. We're going to be vastly upping the level of security on these ships, and possibly even naval escorts. Anyone caught in the act of trying to stop these ships will be deemed terrorists and dealt with accordingly."
Further statements were issued regarding the construction of nuclear power plants in Australia. "We're one of two first-world nations with large deposits of uranium. Now should we keep letting the world have a chokehold on us by way of energy supply, or should we take our energy supply into our own hands? Besides, air pollution causes far more cancer than nuclear power. This is much, much cleaner than burning fossil fuels and produces many orders of magnitude more power than wind or solar. And we don't even have to deal with the nuclear waste; America's buying that like there's no tomorrow! Where's the problem?"
Statements were also issued regarding the Russian Election scandal. "Our election monitors have reported a dispicable level of bribery, vote buying, voter intimidation, and just plain bad behavior. Australia is considering raising tariffs against Russia and encourages other nations to follow suit."
NOTE: If my stating specifics about the Russian election is out of line, just tell me. All Jack said was "scandal".

Well, late for one round only means early for the next! Now all you world powers see the advantage of being Gabon? This doesn't matter
We need crops: Seeds, livestock that is healthy and cheap to maintain. Staple crops first and foremost, supplemented by fishing and grazing. The first order of business is always a stable and decent food supply. Import food where practical.
Cash crops are to be produced at a local level. Villages will independently manage clearing, cultivation, and assigning shares. Villages, families, individuals are encouraged to diversify their crop production: Crops cultivated in common should have distinctly separated shares, and farmers are encouraged to have their own staple crop plots.
Make it easy to purchase tractors, cultivators, other farm equipment, seed supplies, natural fertilizers and pesticides. In an agrarian economy we can’t afford to use up land without discretion, so activities must be ecologically sustainable, using crop rotation and limited use of wood fuel to reduce deforestation and clearing, to this end we are increasing petroleum supplies to reduce the necessity of using vegetation fuels. Salinization and erosion must be carefully monitored and reduced.
Gabonese industries are to be given preference in developing Gabon’s timber, ore, petroleum resources etc., but just barely, so they have to practice with being efficient and move towards becoming productive enough to compete with internationals on a level playing field, at least within our own country.
Rural industry will also be organized along local lines, initially with organized light industry in the cities and villages, until enough capital can be accumulated to begin allowing Gabonese private enterprise to take over that role. We are trying to get light manufacturing and textile and light industrial and packaged goods machinery to as many families as possible, to reduce the number of rural people dependent on employers, so they can pursue their own business and keep as much profits to themselves as possible.
To encourage both small scale industry and agriculture, we are developing road and water transportation links to the interior to facilitate easier and more reliable movement of goods.
Hire western and Pacific businessmen to show us how to enforce standards in our financial and banking sectors and improve the dependability of local investment.
In the capital, Libreville, we are founding an international university, the Libreville International Institute. We invite students, professors, thinkers, workers, and capable men and women from all over Gabon, Africa, and the world to come to our country and learn and also see what they have to offer to efforts to transform Gabon into a more modern, free, and prosperous state. This is a unique opportunity for people to partake in this grand experiment and learn and improve themselves in a community of curious and dedicated individuals. Many subjects will be studied there, and there are not very many opportunities to attend an academic but also very real institute where so many diverse environments interact, as well as having a national government earnestly listen to your suggestions.

ShVerni, it would be a crime for you to not be India. You can hardly deny the wishes of a billion people chanting in unison, "We want ShVerni! We want ShVerni! We want ShVerni!"*
Gabon to France :
How manifestly excellent! We would love to purchase your fine agricultural products with boatloads of our ridiculously hyperinflated and probably counterfeited currency!
*translated from the dozens of languages on the Indian subcontinent. Yes, they can chant in unison in different languages.
EDIT Oh, and more Gabonese orders:
This AIDS thing really is ridiculous. We need good education about AIDS and communicability and we need it now. Not to stigmatize it, because we don't wan't people hiding the fact, but to make information known about its causes, effects, and to tell people they have an ethical obligation to take whatever steps necessary to not spread it. We also are attempting to set up hospitals and clinics to treat the effects of the disease, and ask the international community to help us in these efforts. Even though Gabon has a relatively low proportion of HIV bearing people, it is important to take this opportunity to contain its spread. If the Gabonese model is successful, it can potentially be used in other countries as well.

Welcome, India? (Yeah, I know the mod hasn't officially accepted him, but I'm getting an early start, and naturally none of this will take place until Jack says so). Got food problems? We could start shipping you some of our excess food, and increase shipments as time goes by. In return, we'd need to consruct a naval base north of Bombay, to help protect our shipping interests in the Persian Gulf.
