Look you must have pity, Harry is a complete moron.. some people are just born that way. They are wild, crazy and stupid. It was a very offensive thing to do, and he should be kicked in the head for it nonetheless.

The sentence you quoted:

quote:
As opposed to electable stupidities and sillinesses, such as Ford, Reagan and the Shrubbery dynasty.

To clarrify it, read it as:

quote:
As opposed to electable stupidities and sillinesses, such as Ford, Reagan and "the Shrubbery dynasty".

Also:
Dynasty
1. A succession of rulers from the same family or line. A sequence of powerful leaders in the same family

Doesn't succession imply an inheritance of title as opposed to election of same?

Do you think His dad would have been President if not for Reagan?

Point being its not an automatic but requires approval of the electorate (or for the delusional the illicit action of the supreme court.)

So you agree that there is a certain degree of inheritance involved. (the election being another part was never disputed btw)

At best a minor one. While I would agree presidents are always made men. If that means they inherit their influence by way of family or via political networking the effect is the same. The bottom line though even if annoited by the political machinery they require tacit approval of the electorate. Which rather was the point of Molly's post that the US electorate is moronic.

As for the Molly quote, Kuci is quite right to question its veracity.

For we know the electable stupidity doesn't apply to Ford as he was never elected pres or vice president in a general election.

The shrubbery dynasty is a stretch both on terms of only 2 family members constituting a sequence of rulers as well as the point of succession.

Lastly that leaves the electable stupidity of Reagan, who given the alternatives of Carter and Mondale makes this a rather simple answer.

All in all a typical over the top generalization from our favorite author of puffery.

My quibble with Kuci is that he seemed to think molly was using incorrect grammar and inadvertently saying there was a Ford and Reagan dynasty. Grammatically, that's not what molly was saying at all. He was saying "Ford, Reagan and the Bush Dynasty," dynasty only referring to the Bushes.

"Dynasty" has become a word with broad meaning, and pretty much everyone refers to the Bushes as a dynasty, as assuredly as they refer to the Kennedies as such.

But it couldn't go either way, which is my point. The way he phrased it excluded the possibility that he was referring to a separate dynasty for each.

He would have to have said, "the Ford, Reagan and Bush Dynasties" to mean that.

I don't know which is worse: That an obviously stupid boy is dressing as Nazis or that this was on a fancy aristocratic party with the nice title "Colonial lords and savages (or was it natives)"? Decadent British aristocrats still styling as colonial lords. This worries me more than an idiot, which is something quite common in aristocratic circles...

You'll find I frequently mean what I say, and say what I mean, unless I'm being ironic or sarcastic, in which case this is usually signalled by context and phraseology.

My grammar is correct, but your interpretation/misreading incorrect, because such a reading is not valid given what I have written.

If you read my posts you'll find I have a reasonable amount of dexterity with the English language, by virtue of having studied it for quite some time, and in depth.

Scrupulous attention to text usually pays dividends.

With those howling successes, Henry VIII, Edward VI and Mary I.

And the dynasty's founder had a highly dubious claim to the throne in any case.

Still, at least Elizabeth Tudor had something going for her.

You forgot to mention: Lloyd George, Catatonia, the Manics, Dylan and Edward and R.S. Thomas, Henry V, Owen Glyndwr, Shirley Bassey, and Gorky's Zygotic Mynci, along with other iconic proofs of Welsh genius.
