So based on something totally unrelated, you trust his credibility in this regard? Nice one.

It's a sad thing that our President & his administration have demostrated their incompetance and untruthfulness to the point where I'm inclined to believe this reporter despite the fact that invading Iran makes no sense, and requires that the man in charge be the intellectual equal of a baboon. Given, however, that such a comparison is insulting to the baboon... what can I say? Blah.

Do you have a keyboard shortcut for that? If I press Alt-F9 does it paste "You hate America" into the browser?

Not unrelated at all - actual US policy that is different to what has been stated or implied.

What disturbs me most is NOT that America is lining up targets for TLAMs - I would expect that. More disturbing in Hersh's report is that the military, rather than the CIA, is being used for intelligence gathering due to the CIA being restricted in this respect after the 9/11 report.

Again, this is a divergence between stated and actual policy. What is the point of acting to limit CIA overseas operations - and then subcontracting it out?

Another point - a pre-emptive strike on a nation close to nuclear capability is surely a huge incentive for that nation to continue development. Once it has the nukes it ceases to be a viable target. Unless you want the Straits of Hormuz to glow at night and the resulting hike in oil prices...

...hang on, Dubbya makes his moolah from oil... so if the price goes up he makes a fortune... so it's in his personal interest to scare everybody and push the price up.

Ah, that makes sense - try and scare them into submission.

Because the USA doesn't have a hope in hell of successfully invading Iran and imposing it's own form of govt.

You want to take on 60 million people with nukes who chant "Margh Bargh Amrika" every week? Then you're just as crazy as they are.

As the good book says - "You're on your own, son".

Interesting, yet again both the left and right aren't denying the veracity of the story (except Winston), acknowledging they really believe Bush & co. would do something like this.

Nuclear power is good but the reactor in Iran is designed to maximize the production of plutonium not maximize the creation of electricity. The reactors designed to produce the maximium amount of electricity and the least amount of plutonium are actually much cheaper to build and maintain then the design the Iranians have built.

That leads alot of people to believe the Iranians are more interested in nuclear bombs then civilian energy.

I could see limited air strikes to take out the nuclear reactor and the enrichment sites but that's about it. There will be no invasion because they don't have the forces to occupy both Iraq & Afghanistan, maintain their various other duties, and invade Iran.

I think that's about right, or that the admin is mapping for an Israeli strike. Winston could also be correct since the admin has made it clear that they're nutters enough to do such a thing.

Tired of ads?

The best option in my mind is to let the Israelis handle it. They've shown time and again they don't want the Iranians or Arabs to get nukes.

Except that even the regimes that don't want Iranian nukes, like the Saudis, would have to condemn such an attack, and the grief the US would get for Letting Israel fly over Iraq, including from Iraqis, would be immense.

Actually he has. Even if his position is the same is it is before (which I doubt based on the political quiz), all he posts now is mindless reactions to whatever Bush does. I don't care whether he's right or wrong; the point is that his posts are now basically empty.

actually if there is resistance from within, we wouldn't have to send in ground troops. Unless they get the silly notion of setting up a democracy. Because it's possible they will get another fundamentalist goverment.

We could simply conduct this war from the air.

not that I know of. We knew we had to send in ground forces.

We did say something similar about afghanistan. And it's true, we didn't need any ground forces for that war. The only reason we sent them in was to try to find terrorists and stabilize the country.
