Almost. The trouble with the death penalty is when it's carried out on an innocent suspect.

@Pekka: For your interest, they were convicted of sexual abuse on technical evidence. The girl had too much alcohol to remember much of anything of the incident.

I think it's disgusting they lower the sentence on the basis that she was drunk. It doesn't actually make the crime any lesser, I mean does that mean if you rape someone who is drunk, that you get only few months on that technicality? Uh... Plus she was underaged ANYWAY.

Hey, I'm not defending this one AT ALL. In here, rapist should see some jail too. I don't like rapists.

Well that is your problem. Why don't you start putting out? Do you think because you skip what people write, that you can read more and become more smarter than the rest of them? No you can't, because you're missing the points that way and this is a good example of that. Start showing effort.

Could it be that she wasn't able to give consistent testimony and that she didn't get examined soon enough for useful forensic evidence (DNA analysis of sperm) to be collected?

As said, her memory was blacked out by alcohol, but forensic evidence was enough for show that (at least) two of the men had had penetrative sex with her. The two others went free in the appeals court, and the two others had their convictions changed to sexual abuse, since under current law it isn't rape if the victim has put herself (or himself) in a helpless position voluntarily.

The case won´t be tried in the Supreme Court. Bastards! On the bright side will this probably be the last case of this kind since the new and stricter rape legislation comes into effect on April 1st. And the money collected (450 000 kronor!) will be used to start a fund for rape victims.
