True, but making up for doing something stupid, showing you're sorry, is a good way to fix a problem. Not a relationship, but a problem.

If I got drunk and was sick on my girlfriends carpet, cleaning it up and buying her a present to say sorry would go some way to fixing the problem.

No relationship worth being in can be fixed with jewelry, but when you've done something stupid, it can make up for that.
