There's a different thought between a cracker-jack ring and an expensive one. An expensive piece of jewelry, especially if she knows you're short of money, says that you're willing to give up something you want for her. A cheap ring says you're willing to give up something small.

I agree, doing something is better, but an expensive piece of jewelry is a sentimental gift. The sentiment being that you'd give up a lot to make her happy, to show you're sorry. Even in the bible people gave money away to show penance, similarly it works here.

True, but the admittance of a mistake may not be enough. An admittance plus something to show that she means a lot to you, something that will make her smile, would go even further.

Yes, it depends on the sentiment. I think a cracker-jack ring is saying you're trying to buy your way out of it - you've given up little and it doesn't show you're sorry at all. I recommend against diamond rings though. Because of the way diamond trade is in Africa, I would never buy a woman a diamond ring, even for wedding/engagement ring.

So I recommend against buying diamonds. If you are, buy the diamonds from russia that are manufactured. I have heard the russians have come up with a way to manufacture diamonds that can not be identified as fake.

MRT, maybe I'm weird, but the last thing I would want is a gift that cost quite a bit of money. I'd care more about things that we could to together, llike taking me out for dinner, that sort of thing.

This way you show to her, that its her you want, and not anyone else. Just her.
