Is there a reason I can't get into the Spartan Diplomacy Thread?
Is it because there are 300 Replies to it?
Just in case that is the reason, I am starting this new thread.
I noticed this in the embasy from Kass:
quote:
We have received your post and are considering it.
Good! That means we're getting somewhere.
I appreciate your pointing out that you lost out on potential profits from pod popping with the Hunter while it was within Morgan control. I did not realize that. To the extent the results of the pod popping exceeded (if it did) the cost of the probe action, Morgan may actually not be out as much money as I initially thought. I'll have to see how many pods were popped and what the result of the pod popping was.
We would expect nothing less - this was potential profit that was, dare I use the word, stolen from us by your aggressive action.
We would like to get back to normalizing relationships with Sparta so that we can share trade and screenshots of ships in the nearby waters with each other.
I can't make any guarantees about that - once we have had a brief period of normalized relations, the Junta could consider that. Please bear in mind that your stock, excuse the metaphore but I find it fitting, is very low in the Federation right now.
Additionally, right now neither of us are benefiting from vendetta.
Well said - the status quo is certainly unbearable.
As always, I would like to restart payments on ECs for the tech purchases, return the Hunter to Spartan control, restart and share trade between us, and share screenshots amonst us.
The order of procedure sounds good to me. However I can't stress enough that the Hunter must be safely back in our hands before the Junta can consider a peace treaty and a continuation of normal monetary traffic. The reasons for this I've already stated.
You are still skirting the issue of the lump sum payment you owe us for simply neglecting all of our treaties (this is considered a different sum from the pod-popping reparations, in case you were mixing them up by accident).
Lt. Colonel Kassiopeia
Lieutenant Colonel Kassiopeia, Senior Diplomatic Officer of the Spartan Junta, Governor-General of Arcadia.

Sorry about not responding earlier. RL has kept me busy the last couple of days. I'll pass this onto the Corporation.
Please note that we are eager to work with the Junta and would like to ease back into a profitable relationship. I will have to check with the Corporation, but I am fairly hopeful that we could definetly go back into the profit sharing arrangement we had before, return of the Hunter, renewal of tech purchase payments, and establishing a payment plan for any profits earned by the Hunter while under Morgan Command. As I say, a definite maybe. I am not, of course, at this time (because it would involve so many things), authorized to make the offer without checking with the Board.
Please let me know what you think.

[Mead closes the commscreeen. He strains not to think about how much commerce income is lost by both the Corporation and the Junta each and every year that goes by with this profitless vendetta. It saddens him, not only for the profits that Morgan has lost and continues to lose, but also, much like the Gaians mourn over the death of anothers garden, for the profits that Sparta has lost.]

Note, if they bite, it means that we will not be giving them a lump sum payment. Additionally, we can drag out the terms of the deal for a few turns (the devil WILL be in the details, if we want to stall). Also note that I am clear that I don't have authority to make a deal.

I must say that I am appalled at the duplicity and hypcricy shown by your actions. With one hand you offer peace, while with the other you are preparing a dagger to strike at our back.
While you declare to be interested in re-establishing peaceful relations between the Corporation and the Federation, you have still hidden the Hunter in the fungus growth just outside our naval nase of Minas Tirith, without any declaration beforehand as to its intentions. The obvious one that comes to mind is to destroy any Spartan vessel that sets sail from that base. Therefore, our naval forces have removed this threat to our sovereignity in self defence.
A Gator accidently breaching our claimed coastal waters is one thing - we could have negotiated an exception to the Modo Doctrine to allow for its movement.
However, a blatant anchoring in the fungus just 2 tiles from one of our bases is totally unacceptable - especially when you were talking about returning the Hunter to our control and we had explicitly specified Arcadia University (formerly University Base) as the requested handover point. The Hunter was nowhere near this locale.
At the same time, we have also removed the threat to our Pactmate's northeastern shores by destroying the laser skimship heading his way. Note that the application of the Modo Doctrine extends to our governed territories, the University of Planet, as well, and it seems our request to cease hostilities with the UoP has gone unheeded as well.
The Junta will not tolerate any incursions of any kind into our - or our pactmate's - coastal waters, and we do have the naval strength to back up our claims.
It is my sincere wish that these occurrings are the result of a communication breakdown within the Corporation, not a blatant attempt to abuse our desire for peace and prosperity. |
I now hate the spartans

They are just doing what they do. No need to hate them.
They have no intent to be peaceful with us.
We are lucky to have gotten what we could up front.
Although I'm not sure it will do much good I think I might craft a response back to them.

Whatever "peace" is signed, it almost goes without saying that this will be anything but peaceful. Though benifical to have sparta off our backs for the looming war, our nation (and theirs) will be under the constant threat of that peace being broken. Not only will we expect a Spartan attack, but they of us as well.
Regardless, we will need to prepare for another war with sparta; one that is not so one- sided this time. Perhaps the Goliaths of Lal and Yang can be 'persuaded' to our 'business plan' (although that would leave us with even bigger goliaths...).
Anyway, I just wanted to make sure we are clear on how peaceful the forthcoming peace (God willing) will be. |
The only chance, remote as it is, is if DA, and us go all out in a PACT.
I'm not sure they are willing. Even if they did I'm not sure it would work.

Mead is the primary diplomat, I can talk, but I lack the coniving of Mead.
As long as Sparta is strong, we will not be able to win. The idea of a Spartan - Morgan alliance was floated on our side and the spartan side (presumably). Neither side enthusiastically endorsed the posibility (of course the fact a solid agreement wasn't hammered out had something to do with it.) I believe Mead said it best in an earlier post about the Spartan trying to get peace to disrupt the other humans from uniting. I would be concerned about the DAs, but maybe the gaians can keep them out of the Spartan camp. A treaty still gives commerce
I would prefer not to go to war with the Hive, since I would GREATLY prefer gaian, Yang's going to be cranking out planes soon, or even angel probe teams steal airpower for us...
Maybe we could get the gaians to bribe for peace with Yang after some techstealing. Now that the Spartans are the second strongest faction, I hope the number 1 vs number 2 routines will kick in. It would be ideal for the gaians, hive and morganites @ war with the Spartans, all with missles and planes .
Quite frankly, I am not willing to put real effort into this game, when I could get better results from RL. Newspapers are nice and quick, but real good play uses lots of brainpower & time. The next ACDG would require less of that per person.

War with the Hive is unavoidable I fear - but still, they should throw their latest troops at Sparta, not us.
Gaia obviously wouldn't be willing to do the techsteal because they simply can't stand a Hive mass invasion given their current defenses, industry output and cash situation. And Angels... they refuse to take any side, they even didn't vote for Governor position. I highly doubt they would start moving anytime soon... they are aiming for last faction standing I guess...
Peace initiatives from Gaia to Hive sound good - but I wonder whether they can talk to him let alone he actually would listen, given their social settings.
Mead, you still around? Your input?
I personally could see us talking just so we can catch our breath for a few turns and get those defenses ready - and then think about offensive actions. Otherwise, attrition warfare isn't that bad but there is no real future vision or goal to reach other to keep building red units at infinitum and wait for the "big bang" out of nowhere.
We can't really change out of our social settings, that's the bad news. Kill FM and you get drones due to less psych, same goes for Dem and to a lesser extent Wealth but there is no attractive option other than Wealth. (And we already invest 30% into psych due to losing the PTS).
I have never gone to war with Morgan and especially not under FM so I might be a bad choice for a turnplayer in times of offensive action who gets no input.
And please, someone post the entire link to the embassy, without ... in between - and the password.
I guess I wasn't actively around here during the time where it was published. I did a quick search but didn't find andything

Yes, I'm still lingering.
I'll try to see what they want. I'm not too hopeful.

After a few Mission Years of leave, I am again at the disposal of the Spartan Junta. I wish to reopen our diplomatic connections. I have not given up on reaching a peaceful solution to this conflict, but the re-establishment of a channel of communication is essential for this. I suggest we keep to using this embassy facility. I have notified a few Morganite team members to attain a quick response.

Hello Kass,
I'd like to be pleasant but having suffered so badly at the hands of the Junta I wonder why we should reenter discussions.
Has anything changed that should make you wish peaceful relations?
I would be interested in peaceful relations free of attacks and threats. How would we be assured that you would not attack us, unlaterally change there terms of the peace or agreements we have with you?
Normally, I would like peace but our past experience of 'peaceful' relations with Sparta have not been pleasant.
How could we be assured that future dealings will not be the same?
Mead |
It is direct but I see little use in carrying on discussions if they give us no assurances.
