So basically, the US decided that rather than US citizens, it'd make Iraqis die in the crossfire of a fight between US and Jihadists?

Ok, I got it. Iraqis don't matter so they're perfect for being made to suffer in place of Americans.

Well that makes sense.

But as far as clothing and weapons, you would think the army would have all that figured out before they commited snipers to battle.

Funny you never hear about Scandinavian terrorists. Wonder why that is? Do they even exist?

Now Scandinavia you should get out there in the world and start pissing people off. All the while making your rich richer and then you can have your own little crusade.

"A U.S. university in Wisconsin has blocked an attempt by Republican students to raise money for a group called "Adopt a Sniper" that raises money for U.S. sharp-shooters in Iraq and Afghanistan.
The students were selling bracelets bearing the motto "1 Shot 1 Kill No Remorse I Decide." "

The group adopt a sniper is made up of professional snipers. The students were raising funds for the group, but they hadnt organized the effort. Should only doctors/scientists be allowed to raise money for cancer research? Is it wrong for students who dont want to become doctors to raise money to equip those who do?

dudn't make any sense. Scandinavian tellolists that is. It wouldn't be the same anyway, because it would be domestic problem, not international. Or several domestic ones. Because our govs are going to handle it, and unlike with some countries, we can cooperate with our friends. Besides, if it happens in here, it's our problem. If it happens there by us, then it's our mutual problem and we both work it honestly and with integrity. If it happens in here by you, then we both again work it out with honesty and integrity.

From 2003

"OSLO, Norway (AP) — The United States closed its embassy through the weekend in Oslo after a purported al-Qaeda threat against Norway that some thought was likely meant instead for neighboring Denmark.
The Arab satellite station Al-Jazeera aired an audio tape Wednesday purportedly by Ayman al-Zawahri, the top lieutenant of Osama bin Laden, urging attacks on the United States, Britain, Australia and, surprisingly, Norway.

"Don't allow Americans, Britons, Australians, Norwegians or any other crusaders, who are the killers of your brothers in Iraq, to live in your countries, enjoy your resources and corrupt the earth," he said.

Norway, known as a global peacemaker and home of the Nobel peace prize, seemed an unlikely target considering it didn't support the U.S.-led war against Iraq.

But Denmark, like Britain and Australia, was part of the U.S.-led coalition.

The proximity of the countries sparked speculation that fuzzy geography about Scandinavia may have blurred the distinction between the two by al-Qaeda.

"Of course he means Denmark," said Helle Lykke Nielsen, a terrorism expert at the University of Southern Denmark. "Looking at the context, he evidently is talking about the members of the coalition."

Denmark gave complete political and military support to the U.S.-led war in Iraq, including a submarine and an escort ship. In June, 380 Danish soldiers will head for Iraq and two senior civilians — Ole Woehlers Olsen and Henrik Olesen — are part of the country's postwar administration.

And in the Middle East, Scandinavia — Denmark, Norway and Sweden — "often become one in people's minds" she told The Associated Press in Copenhagen.

Stein Toennesson, director of the International Peace Research Institute in Oslo said it was unusual Norway would be targeted, but not unlikely.

Justice Minister Odd Einar Doerum said the national police intelligence service and other agencies were reviewing the threat risk.

"Norwegian authorities are doing a running evaluation of the situation in close cooperation with friendly countries," he said.

The U.S. Embassy, which closed Thursday, will stay closed through the weekend, spokesman Andrew Schilling said.

"We take the security threat seriously and we are currently reassessing the security situation with Norwegian authorities," he said. No other details were available, but the nearly 8,000 Americans living in Norway were urged to "monitor events closely" and take their own security precautions.

U.S. Embassies in neighboring Denmark, Sweden and Finland remained open.

Norway's embassies in the Middle East were warned, as were companies that operate there.

Norwegian Foreign Ministry spokesman Karsten Klepsvik said there were no plans to call diplomats home.

In Copenhagen, police stepped up patrols around foreign embassies, including the Norwegian mission.

Even though Norway, home to the Nobel Peace Prize, has just 4.5 million residents, it has a global profile for its efforts as a peacemaker. Oslo, its capital, has become synonymous with the 1993 Norwegian-brokered peace accord between Israel and the Palestinians that has since been tattered after nearly two years of new fighting.

But Denmark and Norway do have some similarities. Both are members of NATO and part of the U.S.-led war on terrorism and contributed troops to oust Taliban and al-Qaeda members from Afghanistan.

The head Denmark's intelligence agency said it doesn't matter which country was threatened.

"It is a development in the terror situation that a Scandinavian country was named as terror target for the first time," Lars Findsen said. "

I would have thought even the most limp-wristed liberal could understand it. One supports our troops and one supports our enemy.

Supporting a defense fund may appear to support the rule of law but the objectives of the majority of people who support these actions is to define the Guantanamo prisoners as 'criminals' who would then have access to the full legal system and would be 'innocent until proven guilty'. Allowing terrorists to be considered criminals would severely hamper the prosecution of the war against them.

I'm all for giving them a legal trial. After we've squeezed the useful info out of them they should be sent back to the country in which they were captured. The majority of the Guantanamo prisoners captured in Afghanistan are non-afghani. They are considered to be mercenaries and they face the death penalty for their crimes. I dont know what punishment the Iraqi government would impose if convicted, but I guess it would be rather harsh.

Are there any 'adopt a supply clerk' programmes? Any 'adopt a translator' programmes? How about 'adopt a helicopter pilot'?

Those jobs are just as important as snipers (probably more so), but I'll bet there aren't any special campaigns to help them. The reason? These students are completely ****ed up.

What a singularly stupid move by the group.

Its a Catholic Jesuit UNiversity- what kind of morons were these people to think such bracelets would fly!? Its like being at Bob Jones University and startting a program for people to wear bracelets saying "Adam and Steve as good as Adam and Eve". Would anyone be surprised if the admin. told them to stop? No.

As for the general issue- I don;t particulalry give a **** if a group of snipers is missing money, thought I find it silly as well, since the snipers that are needed have day jobs with the government (the FBI sniper LoTM alluded to-do we think he wasn;t a FBI employee with a good job, pension, so forth?). Pathetic macho move by the group. Maybe they should have stuck to raising funds ofr socially conservative groups and anti-abortion groups, which the admin. would have surely supported.

Spirit of America responds to troops requests for donations in support of reconstruction in Iraq.

for ex:

"Library Books for Iraqi Children
Help kids who want to read and learn with books for children's libraries.
We are providing children's books identified by Iraq's Ministry of Education. The books will be used to create children's libraries in community centers, hospitals and schools.

What does your donation buy?
$2,000 buys 200 books – enough for a basic children’s library.
$500 buys the fifty best children’s books.
$20.40 buys the Complete Adventures of Curious George.
Any amount helps!
Make a donation to this project
To donate please call 800-691-2209 or send a check to:
Spirit of America, 12021 Wilshire Blvd., Suite 558, Los Angeles, CA 90025.
Please put "Library books/Iraq" and your email address on your check. To make a secure online donation enter the amount below:

A children's library in Iraq. We hope to provide books for 10 more like this one.

Iraq's Ministry of Education has identified 200 children's books as the foundation for the ideal children's library. The recommended book list includes favorites like Goodnight Moon, Very Hungry Catepillar, Curious George, Charlotte’s Web, Diary of Anne Frank, The Cat in the Hat and The Hobbit. Most books are in English as English is taught at a very young age in Iraq and must be taught in 5th grade and beyond.

We are seeking donations to provide enough books for 10 children’s libraries in community centers, schools and hospitals.

All books will include a sticker on the inside front cover like the one below that includes the message “A gift of friendship from the American people” in Arabic and English. "

Theyre risking their lives to stop the jihadis who are attacking Iraqis and Iraqi democracy - i see nothing wrong with adopting them. That it pisses off certain folks such as we see here, is an added bonus.
