Yup, i bought it. Saw a used copy for $5 US - at that price I couldnt resist, and it was a good excuse to stop playing Settlers2
I havent really gotten into a game of this type since I played AOE. Im not a huge RTS fan.
Im through the first couple of Terran campaign scenarios.
The actual gameplay seems rather simplistic so far, in terms of resources, units, etc. But then this is a learning campaign, I think, and Im comparing it to the relatively sophisticated AOE.
I really like the way the game tells its story, and the way that story is focused on individuals - you feel like this is the outpost of an empire, not the ENTIRE empire like in AOE. More credible and immersive in that respect. Overcomes the standard RTS gameplay. And oh yeah, the cutscene of the guys in the truck was cool.

I hear you on that. But come on now, there is a world of difference between this statement, and the implication of your original statement that I took issue with:

I don't think they could ever live up to the original, anyways. There's no way they could make such a perfect game again... especially if you consider what WarCraft 3 turned out to be. |
Sure some (like you) will always prefer Starcraft, and that's fine, but most reasonable players (like me) like both, and appreciate what Blizzard added to the genre in WC3. In my experience nearly all WC3 players who were the right age were SC addicts. And, as I said, the game has received acceptance in the pro community (though you might not have been aware of this) and has been very successful under a wide range of definitions.
