Turn 1 - 4000 BC Inflate your Upload Space

starting position

moving one of our warriors on top of that mountain next to starting pos was so obivious move, that i made it without discussion

we are sitting on top of ivory.

we have 3 settlers, 3 workers and 2 warriors. one warrior spent his movement point already by moving to the mountain.

we have masonry and ceremonial burial.

where would you like us to move the units ?

what would you like to research next.

whats the long term strategy, shall we begin to construct SoZ immediately. I think SoZ was a go, even i was against allowing the wonder. must confirm this.

Seems like only the turnplayer plays the save.

So, i'll be the turnplayer of this turn, since jshelr is still missing.

Read THIS if you are unsure how to handle the save game.

anything else ?

Save Game

I think that we ought to move one of the workers onto the cow, though, but please don't do that just yet...

At a first glance, I think that we have a good starting spot, and I would expect Dominae to give each team starting positions that were comparable to each other. I hope that we have some food to the south , and I think that there is jungle to the north east under the FoW...

Regarding the hills to the north east, a city built 9 of the current stack would have 5 hills, the cow and two mountains, and 3+ bonus grasslnds. that is going to be a production powerhouse once we leave Despotism, and if it is the capital, capable of alot more than twenty spt (not quite 30spt, unless we forest a couple of tiles, a starve the city for a while). in a GA, we could get 30spt out quite easily...one turn pikes, or swords/horses(cheaper to upgrade in the long run to knights...) if we beeline for a government, to fight an early war with WCs...

I'd rather build the first city 1 of the starting stack, that way we could have the cow at radius immediately.

one worker could road + irrigate the ivory, another (or 2) could irrigate the cow asap to get the 3 fpt from the cow.

as for the 2 other settlers we need to gambit and try to find good positions, i guess ? maybe follow the river with another and send another NE or W as theres rivers seen too.

warrior 2 maybe east to explore and make possible contacts, when looking at the minimap

just thinking out loud here

btw here's the minimap

/edit: i cant type

I don't have a problem haveing the capital towards the south west, with the cow immediateley within the city radius, but I think a city using the high lands would be be incredably powerful especialy for wonder builds.

Moving a worker 2 would be very useful, as it could help wiht our making decisions.

Got spare money?

regarding tech -- is pottery obvious?

btw, i don't like the lonely ivory. usually it's in a group. someone else has ivory also.

we need to get SoZ / math. But a prebuild means we can wait for math.

we could do that as our next move and see what it reveals. i think nobody would disagree there ?

i'll go grab a bite to eat and will be back in 30 mins or so to move the worker - or something else.

Oh, and we might choose to wait a couple of turns to get the palace into a position that suits us best uin the long run. If we wait three turns, so that all of the settlers are on the tiles that we want the city, we can settle the most central one to get the capital in the best place...

Lose 30 kilos (of popups)

My guess before we look at anything is that we can build where we are now and move one settler 3 steps SouthWest with the other going 3 NorthEast. (Riverside locations.)

Would like to get started on research and it looks like the capital would be in an ok spot.

Short answer: Move a worker on to the cow. we have to do it anyway, and doing it before we move anything else is smarter than settling know and finding ouot that we have missed something important.

My other concern about settling on the starting position is that while in despotism it won't be good for anything other than troops, unless we find some more food under the FoW. I would rather use two turns exploring then settling now and gambling with the furture...

jshelrs idea of building a city right on the spot is good.

there will be nice amount of production later, and we'll be able to use the cow and start research immediately.

on such a small and crowded map the later production may not mean as much as the ability to produce a lot of stuff right from the start.

research-wise i tend to agree with jshelr also, pottery might be the first tech for us.

what if we move another worker 4, on top of the BG ? it would reveal yet some tiles.

Ok, we need atleast one worker to stay on the tile if we move all three settlers, right? we also have to move atleast two settlers, if we do settle, so lets move them, or maybe the last warrior, next...

I suggest that we move one east, but I'm not really certain if it is as useful to move a settler to the east, as there are no indications that the land to the east will aid our growth...

good points. warrior 6 and worker 4 ? we'll see more tiles by doing that and can then decide where to move with rest.

i'd like to be sure we can settle all 3 settlers along river, that would give us nice research boost, and ofcourse the free aquas.

gah, crossposting like hell... As I said earlier I think that 9 is a better city site, but the current position can get 20spt by size8 (both hills, the mountain, the cow and 4 bonus grasslands), So I can understand you points. Just remember that if we do settle, then we have to pay 3gpt in support costs, so we would only be making 1-2gpt, and 3spt (probably a good idea to start a granary prebuild after build a one or two warriors)

yes, the maintenance is unfortunate, but we'll get over that soon by settling another site in 3-4 turns.

yeah, a warrior or two, depending. atleast one. exploration is extemely important.

that was my thinking too, we need the WC's online asap (if we have horses nearby)

so, i'll move the warrior 6 (he'll be on his exploration way to East, if we do that) and worker 4 (we need to improve that BG anyway) ?
