There's a difference. I have seen science fall flat on its face in being wrong too many times so I always put a lot of stock in what people who have first hand knowlegde have to say.

"Living Wills" are almost always completely and utterly worthless, TCO. They are too vague and can never hope to cover every nuance or possibility of a given medical scenario. I've never dealt with one that had any value apart from doubling as toilet paper in a pinch.

Durable Powers of Attorney for Medical Care are the only way to go; and that is what Michael Schiavo has.

Actually, outside the United States, conservatives are far less venomous, which means that no one needs to get dirty to defeat them. Politics in the US is so right-wing, hwoever, we don't have conservatives and liberals, but conservatives (our left wing) and reactionaries (our right wing).

There was a case in Philly recently (too lazy to look for the link) in which a man wrote a living will in which he said he did not want to live in a comma or as a vegetable. Well, sadly, an incident (I forget whether it was an accident of a medical problem) out in in such a state. The man's wife decided to ignore the living will and keep him alive, and the daughter sued to have him die. The case IIRC has not yet been decided.
