Thank heavens I'll be at work tomorrow, away from all the media brouhaha when her body dies on Easter.

Believe me, that's near the top of my list.
But a beautiful woman who isn't crazy? C'mon, Boris. That's the sort of miracle that is beyond even Che's nightlight.

Ned - if you are so certain of your legal standing - this is from March 23rd Wall Street Journal Opinion Page, by Daniel Henninger Schiavo Case Made Bad Law and Good Politics (yes, Capt Dizle he agrees with you, except that he finds this a good result - his opinion mirrors Ned on the social, though not the legal issues). Plus we need to add in the most recent appeals court decision.
quote: It is true that Judge Greer has ruled against Terry Schiavo's parents, the Schindlers, many times. But by my count, in the five years from the original circuit court decision, the rulings against them inclde the following:
Florida's appelas court: eight times; the Florida Supreme Court: five times; U.S. federal courts: five times; the U.S. Supreme Court: three times.
This is a lot of judges. Some of the opinions are long discourses combing back through throught the details of the case. It is difficult for me to believe that these are all "liberal" judges intent on "killing" Terri Schiavo." |
Imran, it looks like the majority of a minimum of 40 judges, there could be more, agree with you.

Ned doesn't understand the concept of - pause for effect - common sense applying in a court of law, especially when it can be applied to the case in question.

Dissident - I may be wrong, but I don't believe so. There are groups of people out there who agree with Ned. Since Ned has a tendency to repeat the main talking points of some of those groups, I strongly suspect he is one of those people who tend to change their believes to match those espoused by that group with whom they identify. Ned is quite smart, and can be very adept at justifying those talking points. Get him away from them - or those topics - and he is a very knowledgable, reasonable person. Get onto those topics and the problem is that he continues to be knowledgable, just not reasonable. And since reasonable is a totally relativistic term (as is common sense, compromise, etc) well....

I am saddened by the unnecessary suffering and pain inflicted by the government upon the Schiavo family and friends above and beyond that which is already unavoidable in such a horrible situation.
As Terri passes let us resolve ourselves against intrusive government and extremist political groups. Each of us bear some part of the responsibility for this. We, the people, have a job to do. We have to step up our political awareness and activity a notch and speak out.
