	Apostates of Islam Suffering from ads?

I have to say I think this is a great Web site. www.apostatesofislam.com is a web site founded by people who where born muslims or who converted to Islam but who later decided that Islam was not a moral religion and/or that there was very little which was peaceful about that supposed religion of peace. The web site details historical errors, scientific mistakes, contradictions and other errors made in the Quran and it provides a damn good explination of how Islam is practed in the modern world and how it is often violent, brutal, intolerant, and abusive towards women. An excellent example is a video of a couple being stoned to death for having sex without being married.

The site is filled with a wealth of interesting facts (like how the Koran advses men to beat their wives if the wife doesn't obey his commands), why terrorism is so closely related to Islam, detailed explinations of where the Koran is just plain wrong, a logical explination of why Mohammed wasn't a very moral man and how he really was little better then a violent cultist, a detailed look at the Hadeth and why it is so screwed up, testimonials of why several people gave up their belief in religion, and a plethera of links to media sources and scholarly papers.

I found the site to be an interesting read especially since it was write by people who were once muslims and who have a detailed knowledge of the religion.

I wouldn't really call it bigotry myself. I'm rather anti-religion but the claim that Islam doesn't fundimentally have something wrong with it based upon what is writen in the Koran is what sparked this one. That and I watched the poor couple getting stoned to death by happy religious people.

I've posted similar things about the Bible which of course also brought out the name calling and the claims of bigotry, but, I hear some idiot on the radio claiming this or that religion is the one true religion and that its holy book is the literal & infallible truth from god and I feel a need to debunk it. Pointing out how screwed up various religions are just might help make the world a less fertile place for the fundamentalists.

Leviticus also states that adulterers should be stoned- and also kids who disrespect their parents.

The problem is literal interpretation. The problems in the Muslim world are that most theological study of Sharia ended about 500 years ago, and that this outdates legal interpretation is allowed to be the civil code of a variety of states.

Leviticus is one of the big reasons most people laugh at the Christian fundimentalists who argue the Bible is the literal word of god and is infallable. I still run across some of these fundamentalist idiots every now and then but thankfully they are normally from another state (read: the south or midwest).

You're right that Sharia stopped evolving 500 years ago but the truth is many of the things in Sharia are valid interpritations scripture in the Koran. It's an especially screwed up religion right now and this is coming from a guy who thinks most religions are screwed up.

Well, as an aethist, I share your disdain for religion in general- I specifically find monotheistic religions bloody minded. At the same time, I don;t view Islam any worse than Christianity. The question is how fundamnetalist one is.

Christianity as defined by the teachings of Jesus isnt stupid, even the apostates 'o Islam refer to the golden rule as the essence of goodness. Its just what people claiming to be Christians have done to the religion that is stupid. I mean, the term "conservative Christian" is an ideological reference and Jesus made it clear not to mix ideology with his teachings.

Fundimentalist Christians are stupid but there is a difference between Islam and Christianity. The Koran says that only good muslims are fundimentalists (i.e. follow every tenet of the Koran and every teaching of Mohammed) including beating your wife (wives), killing apostates & nonbelievers, that it is ok to steal from or kill nonbelievers, then you also have Mohammed (who is the highest moral authority in Islam after god) raping, murdering, assassinating political rivals, ordering Jews slaughtered for not joining his cult, commited pedophilia with a 9 year old, and dozens of other horrible things.

I find them both disagreeable but Islam is by fa rthe more loathsom of the two.

This statement by itself shows that you are coming at this with prejudice and bias and not logically weighing Christianity and Islam. I've heard this on numerous occasions by ignorant people who don't realize that there are sometimes familial obligations to marry people, but that doesn't mean you have sex with them.

The 9 year old was married by Muhammed, but he did not have consummate the marriage when she was young. It was done because her family was killed and according to Arabic tradition he was to take her as a wife so she would be taken care of, not to have sex with .

One of the main problems is people trying to analyize another culture without any knowledge of that culture other than the shallowest view.
