Aftershocks tend to be more powerful the more powerful the original quake was.

It's certainly should be anticipated, as it's a very active fault line, and there are usually sizeable aftershocks months after big quakes.

I don't suppose there is any way to warn from planes? I mean, the USAF has planes that fly around and serve as frequency jammers and such, but perhaps some warning system based on similar planes could be invented?

Is such an earthquake sure to cause a tsunami, or is it theoretically possible for the earth to move in such a way that no tsunami follows?

Is this means another tsunami, then my heart goes out to those poor souls in South Eastern Asia.

It depends on how the Earth moves. On a slip fault (which this isn't), a tsumani would not be produced because no water is displaced.

I just read about two weeks ago that geologists believed there would be another major earthquake in the region within the year. It's very common for powerful aftershocks to continue for quite some time.
