Graphics for Freeciv Support Apolyton, buy Call to Power 2

Well, this forum crash isn't going to stop me from making more city graphics.

Next up is the Electric Age, late 19th/early 20th century.

The first city tile is based on the American West, and is named Gold Gulch in honor of that scenario.

Forumcrash or not, nothing is going to stop us at this point. Besides the archives and forumcache we've all got personal backups so there's no major damage done.

What's this tileset going to be called? Enter the AD-FREE zone

Ladies and Gentlemen,

The time has come to come up with an official name for this project. At the start, about 6 months ago, I called it the Apolyton set in private but it really wasn't a unique tileset at that point. I simply used the isotrident tilespec's and replaced the graphics in that directory. When Freim(Yog-Sothoth) later joined and made a new set of terrain tiles and moved everything into a new tileset with tilespecs it became one in its own right.

Currently the workingtitle for this tileset is called "Freim96". However practical that doesn't have the right ring to it. We're looking for something with panache and which communicates the essence of this project: working together and creating something new.

Now Freim and I had some earlier discussions about this subject but we haven't found a good name yet. Any ideas or suggestions for a good name?

Very good, smiley!

I can't belive that you actually draw your cities with pencil and paper before making the computer pixels. I noticed that in the old free civ graphics thread as well. Very impressing!

Well it's official, we won't make it in time for 2.0, but there's always 2.1. The best is yet to come folks!

Kudos to all the Freeciv developers and maintainers. It's been a long road.

Yes, 2.0 has taken loooong. There are tons upon tons of changes under the hood. We have several big changes in modpack-ability slated for 2.1, as well as in the general beautification department.

Regarding tileset name, how does "Amplio" sound?

It means "to enlarge, increase, improve". I think it kind of fits because this tileset is larger than the "standard" size, will mostly consist of brand new gfx including several additional city styles, and it uses new UI elements like the citybar.

It doesn not however, encompass the "working together" aspect.

Well, some progress on the Japanese tileset.

Despite various efforts I haven't been able to make contact with the original author so that leaves me in the sad position of re-doing/implementing the set from my own creations. This has taken some time but I should post it here soon.

In the meantime I've found a fitting name for this tileset. It's the Latin word: CIVITAS

Which has several meanings in Latin like " town" or "city" and also "townsfolk" or more fittingly: "a union of citizens". Yes, it may sound a little like another civ-xxxx cliche but in this case "civitas" seems to cover this project quite well.

St. Leo,

I did ask Erwan about his graphics but he pointed me towards his remaining units on the net. He's rather busy, and considering he had some PC troubles lately. I'm not sure if he's got anything unpublished left.

I'll PM you if you want to contact him yourself.

Hi Smiley,

I've seen your hightower and bridgework in the other threads. A very creative idea, maybe we can implement "true" bridges in FC someday.

First things first however, I've got one iso city left to do and that's a medieval one. Plus perhaps some extra's like rome and early industrial.

You still have some time left to finish the Electric Age?
