You may be right, but they don't have the numbers for a formal coalition, and even formal coalitions can be unstable. If the government last for another year, there's a good chance that Martin will again pander to the Conservatives first and ignore the NDP.

People don't vote for ****ing parties; they vote for individual candidates.

Maybe they're just pissed off and will get over it.

I agree people are putting too much on loyalty to party. What really shocks is that she crossed to what is viewed as the source of the corruption. To say some people are irate would be to say a hurricane is a breeze.

That'll leave them one vote short when Kilgour and Cadman decide to agree that it is time for an election.

More than a chance. The NDP simply cannot deliver a majority that can be counted on. Three days last week demonstrated that.

Does Gomery have a deadline that mandates he be done this year though? I've heard that he could go into next year, but I've seen a lot of bad reporting the last week.

I was under the impression that he'd probably be done by the end of this year, beginning of next.

I suppose he could keep going after that, but it seems like an adequate timeframe.

wow

If Stronach wanted to REALLY show her convictions, she should have voted against the budget and then immediately upon the election call, THEN defected and faced the electorate after attempting to get the Liberal nomination.

It seems that her "principles" could have been better met by deciding to sit as an independent. Joinin ghr Liberals looks like a grab for influence and quite frankly another example of the Liberals bribing people to retain power

Tired of ads?

Why? Her electors sent her to Ottawa to represent them. The parties excercise all together too much power over our representatives, and then we gasp in disbelief when an MP excercises the one thing they have sole power over.

That being said, I think she is an opportunist who is sorely mistaken on what her future holds. She most likely has designs on the big chair in the PMO. That is finished now. She wouldn't be elected leader of a bottle drive, let alone the Liberal Party of Canada.

I have to scratch my head at something Deb Grey said today. Harper has been approached but has rebuffed Liberals who might want to cross the floor. Apparently, he doesn't believe in it.

What kind of democracy would we have if our MPs were slaves to party and couldn't bolt if the situation called for it?

My MP is my representative in Ottawa, he or she should not be a particular party's representative to me.

Also, I have to wonder... If the Conservatives are such a bad solution for Canada, why are scraps that fall off the Conservative table on the front bench of the Liberal government? What? There are no qualified Liberals?

I'd be really pissed if I were a Liberal back bencher who put in the time on committees and did everything required of me, but Brisson and Stronach are in my ****ing seat!

Take a pill, Ben.

This is an opportunist looking for power. She has decided she has a better chance as a Liberal. She has very poor judgement.

Your guys had their hands in the total obliteration of the party not too long ago, so don't lecture me about who is a liability, son.

Incidently, I'm not convinced this will be bad for the Conservatives come election day.

How can people believe a person who says she could never bring herself to vote with the seperatists to bring down the government when she did precisely that just last week.

A journalist from Montreal commented that she really has no clue about the politics of Quebec. To be fair to her, not many outside of Quebec have much of a clue either.

Yeah, which is why I really feel for all the people who voted for Stronach in her riding. They voted for a Conservative... it was their vote that got her where she is today - while now they have someone who is completely different and represents very different ideals. Thats undemocratic.

But I'm all for people switching parties if they want to. Although I think they should only be allowed to switch once an election is called to let the people decide if they approve of the switch... and certainly not two days before one of the most important House votes in recent Canadian history. Thats essentially stealing from the people who voted for her.

This government had better fall now. If only to see Stronach booted out of her riding and cabinet position. What a crook.

And I'd say the same thing no matter which parties were involved. Honest

And what if 75% of her constituents actually want the budget passed? Should they wait for her to switch during an election and another year for the same provisions in a budget?

You have to take some time and learn that voters do not fire and forget in a parliamentary democracy. We elect people, not parties, to represent us. We count on the people to make the governments and parties work.

The biggest problem Canada has had in the last 50 years has been the creeping power of the parties over the people that we elect to represent us.

The Libelars have not yet reached Republican status.

That being said, the Libelar Party is clearly a house of lepers. They deserve all of the opprobrium that can be dumped on them.
