Turn Reports: 2070BC to 1000BC Support Apolyton or Terrorists Win

2070BC:

Lost Boys sent Code of Laws as promised. I sent back Mathematics accepted.

Ankh-Morpork didn't send across Map Making as they had promised, so I will remind them.

The Euphorican Warrior north of Marcopolis has not moved, so we will just continue to watch him for now. AM have a Warrior on our borders with our permission on the condition they do not cross the line. No big deal, as they have plenty to worry about at the moment. They have said they will advise of any Euphorican troop movements within view.

Most Horsemen have been fortified as they stand, as the quickest means of returning to full strength. One redlined Vet Horse was returned to Sweet Desolation for the instant health offered by the Barracks there.

The Warrior on the hill north of Antioch has pushed further north onto the next hill, with the objective of continuing further north-northeast into the mountain range to act as a permanent sentry.

The Workers finished connecting the Iron (an anomaly in the game mechanics of PBEM as discussed some time ago by Sabrewolf).

We therefore will have 2 Immortals trained in 2 more turns.

We remain weak compared to the Euphoricans, and are also weak compared to BOH and AM.

Research restarted at 100% - 5 turns to Currency.

Got spare money?

We seem to be safe for a few turns and by the time they gather enough forces to attack we'll have some Immortals ready to pound them into the dirt. Most excellent.

Will we send the Immortals out as soon as possible so we can get our Golden Age or will we set them as defence and wait for the enemy to come to us?

Immortals are a waste of shields as defensive units. We may as well build Spears if we're going to do that.

No, we shall send them out, perhaps with some Horses as an advance guard to scope out the enemy positions quickly.

it is good we are #1 in MFG... Clearly the teams with higher mil strengh have paid a price in growth.. I wonder why our pop is so low though. I bet all those stats are fairly close-together. If u move workers around, are we able to move up or down in those stats? do that at the end of our next turn, and we might be able to judge the gap between us and the other teams.

Just loaded the last turn to test:

Moving GNP to 35 or 37 puts us 3rd, moving it to 38 or 39 puts us 2nd. Max possible is 39 at this stage.

Moving Productivity to 69 makes us 1st.

Mfg Goods at 23 makes us 2nd, and at 22 we drop to 3rd. At 21 we are 5th.

So it's all pretty close at the moment.

I would not build any more regular military units - Barracks before them from this point on. I haven't looked at a recent save so I'm not sure if that's not already the case... but just pointing it out. This is especially true of Horsemen, whose retreat % increases with experience.

I guess it's a case of "can we wait for another Barracks" (we only have one at the moment.....or do we need to build a few units as insurance for the time being.

I suggest we build a barracks in Inner Sanctum for the time being because it has high productivity. Our newer cities are smaller and might be overrun before we can get a barracks built.
Also, can we move Simon one tile northeast? That way we can get a better view from the mountain top.

1990BC

Some interesting developments:

Euphorica has offered us peace. I sent it back to them without comment, implying that we may be interested but effectively asking them to offer a sweetener to go with it. I'm not of a mind to accept peace on any terms. But if they offer us a tech..... What do you all think?

First Immortal built. We are now average in military strength compared to them.

Euphorica has built a Colony on the Horses, just south of Nirvana. They must be desperate to build Horsemen, since the resource can be claimed with a Temple build, and they've now sacrificed a Worker . I have moved a Horseman to within 2 tiles of it with the intention of overrunning it next turn if it proves to be undefended

By the way, our Horsemen have been renamed Yul Brynner, Steve McQueen, Charles Bronson, Robert Vaughn and James Coburn

Despite their diplomatic approach, the BOH are being pains by playing the old 3-in-a-row-delay-the-AI trick, preventing our exploring Warrior from passing through to the West. I will contact them and express our displeasure

Second Barracks will be completed in 2 turns, in Inner Sanctum (still not sure I like that name). 10 shields to go and we can only produce 9 shields in the town, but with any luck the engine will give us another shield when we grow next, so it may be completed in 1.

Next available Worker will start building a road directly north from Inner Sanctum towards Euphorican territory.

We probably should think about pumping out another Settler soon. We don't want to start falling behind economically just because we are building our military. I've switched the Immortal build in Aquarius over to a Settler - comments?

On the other hand, the tech pace remains furious and our Immortals will become obsolete faster than we would like. We are behind at least BOH in techs. All other civs have everything we have and possibly more (except Lost Boys, who lack MM - which I've just offered them). We have Currency in 3.

I intend offering BOH a deal that we will go for Republic if they give us CoL and Literature. They are currently researching Construction.

We remain #1 in Mfg. Goods and Productivity, and #2 in GNP.

We need to fight until we at least get a golden age with our immortals. Asking for peace means they are scared or insecure. Let's not let them get horses. If we agree to peace now it'll be like making the same mistake we made with their undefended city.

Is it permissible for me to play the turn and then make recommendations on what to do? Or can I just observe the situation without moving any units?

Not sure what you mean. It's certainly permissable to play the turn after it's already been sent. But it's not really right to play a new turn and inform the "turn player" of developments before the turn is officially played and sent. Is this what you mean?

Our Horseman overran the Euphorican Horse Colony, rendering their Worker sacrifice an absolute waste of shields

Of course, our Horsie is now exposed and may lose his life next turn (Robert Vaughn....pray for him!). However, I believe the risk was well worth the result

There was no response to our "resend" of their peace offering, so clearly they were not serious, or perhaps they gathered that we are not either.

One slight area of concern - their military is once again strong compared to us, meaning they have built one or more new units this turn. Remember also, that they had Horses connected for a turn, so they may have switched some builds to Horsemen, meaning they may have a couple soon regardless of us destroying their colony.

I've also moved a Horseman into Invictus, in order to take care of that Euphorican on the mountain outside the town.

The trick with Inner Sanctum worked - the new labourer from the pop growth went to the mined BGL and our Barracks reduced from 3 turns to absolute completion

We now have 2 Barracks towns, and will have 3 more Immortals completed in 3 turns.

We're still building a Settler in Aquarius, and Immortals/Spearmen in all other towns.

As Trip mentioned, it's much more preferable to build units in Barracks towns, however given the pace of research, I believe we need to build as many regular units as we can and get them to the battlefront to cause as much damage as possible!

Probably more appropriate to post this in the turn report, so this is my Battle Report to Euphorica. Please excuse my tongue-in-cheek arrogance

Firstly, let us say that we note that our return offer of peace was completely ignored. We would have thought you would have offered something in return, as we kept the door open for you by sending peace back to you. However, it is clear from your response that you were not serious in your offer of peace to the Desolation Row.

Therefore:

Battle Report:

The Horseman Robert Vaughn has overrun your undefended Horse Colony.

No other incursions were noted

Not much to report. The Euphoricans killed Robert Vaughn, although it took 2 Swords since he did retreat at first. I thought the retreat would have left him safe, not realising that destroying the Colony doesn't destroy the road underneath it

We have a new Settler in 2 turns - I suggest sending him north towards Euphorica, to settle 8889 of our capital on the hill by the river.

2 more Vet Immortals will be ready in 2 turns.

When do you all think we should strike? I'd like at least 5 Vet Immortals first, and a couple of Spears and Cats in the attack force too, so may switch some builds soon.

From the screenie you can see I've moved some Horsies north to harrass those Swords if they come any closer.

We now have Gems connected, our second Luxury. This has made our people happy

How about 999 from Invictus? The wheat will allow fast growth and it'll be out of the Euphorican's invasion path.

Yes that is definitely a city site at some point (or perhaps 996 of Invictus). My reasoning for 8889 of the capital is that:

  1. It's on a river;
  2. We are building a road towards it already;
  3. Corruption will be lower as it is in the first ring from the capital - important for the early stages; and
  4. It gives us a forward observation point from which to launch our attack.

I would plan to park our attack force there, and perhaps have a few Horses harrass them from the west.
