If you're going to use it as a forward base then I guess 8889 makes more sense. Carry on, general.

i'd go with 8889. we would want to escort that settler with a lot of mil, to avoid putting our new settlement in the same boat as their ill-fated horse colony..

I don't think a city at 8-8-8-9 is a good idea yet.

It is surrounded by mountains which are perfect locations for enemy forces to muster while they besiege the town (if it ever gets to that point). The war isn't won yet, and we don't want to give them any free tiles where they can easily strike us from where we would be fools to attack them.

Remember, no cities next to mountains or hills yet.

Yes sir, Mr. Firaxian

Well yes, you're right actually

Other city location suggestions then? How about 778 of the capital, or south, or east to take advantage of that Wheat tile (though not next to a mountain!)?

Nothing much to report. Our Vet Horsie Yul Brynner got rid of their pesky Warrior on a mountain. They covered their Worker with a Spear, and moved their Swordsmen backwards, the cowards.

2 Immortals and a Settler ready next turn!

You're doing a great job.

Once our army is built should we pick off their newer cities or go for the jugular?

999 of invicicus is good..
888 of antioch isnt bad either, and we can exert pressure on that horsie as well - now and also if there is ever a peace, via culture expansion.

I'm in favour of Moonbars' suggestion of settling 888 of Antioch, unless there are strong objections.

The Settler is on the way there, together with 3 Immortals.

What should be the target of our first attack - Metallica, U2, or Nirvana? And what combination of troops should we use? Bear in mind that even with 2 Immortals being completed this turn, we are still weak compared to Euphorica.

I vote for attacking Nirvana. We can remove the possibility of them getting horses in the future and it's closer than Metallica. Metallica would be my second choice since they have iron there.

Solid thinking

Although U2 may be an interesting target, since it will split their Empire and make it more difficult for them to move troops between Metallica and Nirvana

[EDIT: However, they can get slow movers from their capital to U2 in one turn, but they can't do so in Metallica or Nirvana]

Put an end to popups!

In an attack it is vital that we fork two important locations and split their forces. I would recommend marching between Metallica and U2, landing on top of their iron. From there we can prevent them from using their iron as well as having a defense bonus and trapping an unknown number of units in Metallica. We can also cut roads to prevent them from escaping from there, then take the city.

Additionally, they will have to fear an attack on Nirvana since it is close to us.

The key is getting the enemy to split his forces as much as possible. We need to be particularly clever since their army is apparently quite large.

Ok.

An approach between Metallica and U2 however would necessitate one turn of exposure on a plains tile, then moving onto the Iron hill (probably having to remove any guards there first). There will undoubtedly be casualties - we must therefore have Vet Spears and Cats to dull their defensive attack and protect our Immortals.

An alternative is to land on the hill outside Metallica first, thereby achieving an instant defensive bonus. This however removes the strategic advantage of making them split their forces.

I'm toying with the idea of getting a couple of harrassing units to the west side of them so they are surrounded with units and must spread their defences even more thinly.

I am going to ask Angh-Morpork to remove their warriors from near our territory. I don't want them reporting troop movements to Euphorica.

The key is to split them and then destroy them. If we have to take losses to do so then so be it.

The more I think about it, the more sense it makes to go for U2 instead, splitting their empire and hopefully their army as well. We can use some Horsemen as you've suggested to harrass their west flank near Metallica and try to keep pressure on Nirvana as well with a few Immortals, killing anything not next to the city.

We then make our big push up the center. From there they'll have an enormously exposed flank (an arc going from Metallica to their capital at AbbA and then around to Nirvana. From there we should be able to pick and choose our next target with ease.

With our Immortals we'll be able to smash through tough defenses. We'll probably run into a rather large force at U2 but we should be able to muster enough firepower to punch through. Once that is done their massive front will cause them to unravel. Our advantage is in a straight-up slog fight. As you point out, Cats and Spears will help us in avoiding losses. We'll need a balanced force to get through. We want to avoid having to use Immortals on defense so we'll need plenty of Spears I fear.

No units from cities without Barracks!

Thanks. Seems like we're coming to the same conclusion.

While I agree with your philosophy about no units from cities without Barracks, I feel we must produced as many units as we can as quickly as possible in order to attain military superiority. Producing units from 7 cities for 5 or 6 turns as opposed to just the 2 currently with Barracks could make all the difference, particularly with the fast tech pace.

Shame we're not Militaristic. Barracks are 40 shields since we're not. I do fear the consequences of going into battle with mostly regulars...

Perhaps.....but we need to. And besides, regular Immortals are still pretty fearsome against Spears, as long as we have sufficient Spearmen and Cats of our own to blunt their initial attack.

Of course, the Cats will be produced from our Barracks-less cities

Not much to report. We lost a Warrior (Colin) to the Euphoricans - he was scouting around their territory up north. They have at least 2 Horses that we know of.

New Settler, 2 Immortals and a Spear moving north from Antioch while a Worker builds the road. New town in 2 turns.

Another Immortal built - we are still weak compared to Euphorica

The Settler of the next town is in place (naming suggestions?).

With him are 3 Immortals, 2 Horses and a Vet Spear. In 2 more turns we shall have 2 more Immortals and our first Cat. Then we will build a couple of Vet Spears for defensive cover, then more Immortals and Horses. Our third Barracks is still 7 turns away at this stage, though we'll probably knock off a turn through pop growth.

We've dropped to 3rd in GNP, but are still #1 in Mfg. Goods and Productivity.

I think we'll need another Worker soon, but we really need to keep building the military.

A milestone is reached - we are now average in military strength compared to Euphorica. In fact, we are now average compared to 2 other teams, and strong compared to 3.

We now have 7 Immortals, 5 of which are Vets. We have built our first Cat, and now have most of the force I feel we require to launch an attack. Another Immortal is ready next turn, with 9th Immortal 2 turns later. Meanwhile, another Barracks is being prepared and 2 more Cats are on the way.

Lose 30 kilos (of popups)

After the Immortal is built in IS next turn, I will switch to 2 or 3 2-turn Speamen for the defensive stack, while continuing on with Immortals elsewhere.

Things are strating to look good - troop morale is at an all-time high and continuing to increase. Some of our Immortals have been named already (Samson, Hercules, etc), and more names of great heroes are needed. Hey, what about superheroes?
