Hardly surprising at all. The source of the hate is the left which wants to see America reduced in power. Any American president who uses American power to extend our influence is opposed by the left. They did the same to Reagan, recall.

I don't want to see the US reduced in power. Not all lefties are the knee-jerk US-bashing idiots we are caricatured as.

quote:
Also, Bush, like Reagan, supports conservative social values like limiting our now unlimited abortion rights. This kind of thinking really sets the left off.

because it is a personal decision, if you are against abortion DON"T GET ONE.

quote:
Finally, both Reagan and Bush were "religious." To the left, anyone who is religious is stupid and must be derided as such. Guys like Bill Mahar (sp?) openly say this all the time.

Leftie does not automatically anti-religion. My relatives, for example, are leftists BECAUSE of thier religious convictions, they are the true Christians, not the Bible Belt nuts.

for some reason, americas god squad does not believe in helping the poor, which is why most of them are going to hell

not to mention, many of them are hypocrites (condeming gays while themselves being gay) and lying to the people.

We eat cheese for cheese (between the main course and the desert, or along with the first course)

For the Germans, the French are "pretentious, offhand and frivolous".

Who isn't frivolous when compared to the Germans?

quote:

The Dutch describe them as "agitated, talkative and shallow."

...

The Spanish see them as "cold, distant, vain and impolite"

Oh the irony. The boring Dutchmen find them exuberant, the exuberant Spaniards find them cold.

In Italy they comes across as "snobs, arrogant, flesh-loving, righteous and self-obsessed" and the Greeks find them "not very with it, egocentric bons vivants".

Not at all, I only stayed there for like 10 days. If I hadn't come back, I'd have lost my uni semester (and the $1500 fee that comes with it).

We need more French Women in the forum. You don't get too many complaints about them.

Like the old joke says: why are French women and French ships so much alike? They are both well built and poorly manned...

Google says Texas ranks 3rd in average yearly farm subsidies by state. That's not as evil as France which is first in Europe.

My wife loves frogs. No, not them, the real ones. Anyway we didn't get a calendar this year yet so last week I went out trying to find one...no easy task as the stores return them for credit. So I finally find a place with a depleted rack of calendars (50% off) and there's one with frog pics. Pic of a frog with a cute hat, pic of a frog cutely driving a car, you get the idea. So I bought it, get it home and as I'm unwrapping it I notice on the back, in the corner, 'Fabrique de Fwance' or something like that.

Just thought you should know. Also, I marred my boycott but couldn't take it back because the wife thought it was very cute. So that was cool, got some points.

Put an end to popups!

Ouside of politics, the one major problem I have with the French is their love affair with their own language. This has got to tick a lot of people off who recogonize that a common language for the world is the way we ought to go for a multitude of good reasons. Also for Europe to become a state, it really has to have one common tongue, not two.

Some years ago, I visited Canada and journeyed into the French speaking part of Canada. All the signs were in French and I had a very hard time getting around or doing anything. In contrast, if one is in the English part of Canada, signs are in both English and French. The contrast between the two parts of Canada was striking.

The impression I received was that the French were simply hostile to anything that was not French or anybody who did not speak French.

And it's actually far worse in Québec than in France, considering how threatened the French language is in Québec. The French are much looser than the Québecois on the issue.

I wouldn't stop at Austria on the way south. Well, down the Appenine insular, that's right, but Slavic people from Slovenia and Croatia speak excellent English - it's not as widespread maybe, but you'll not find that not-understandable English brabble known especially from Romance languages...
