I just took my dog outside and looked at the ground at my feet to see fire ants swarming around my shoes. I dont know if I stepped on thier scent trail or pissed them off or what, but I do know they must DIE!

You guys know of any way to kill them? Besides smashing them one at a time.

Somewhat releated question, whats the deal with cockroaches? I never see them forging for food or anything like that. They just laze around from what Ive seen.

Somewhat related comment, the spiders here are damn lazy. There are little flys in my moms apartment, they dont grow in number (I assume they get in when we open the door) but they dont go away either. Ive seen three spiders in my moms apartment, a light brown one on the cieling (who went MIA, I intended to kill him but couldnt find him) a little black one in the shower (possibly a black widow ) and a big fat black one in the kitchen (it ran off somewhere though, I only saw it once). I also saw a tiny black one on the floor, being on the floor is a no-no, he met my shoe. Anyway back to my point, the damn spiders arent doing thier job!

Joy! I think I was wrong about them being fire ants, I assumed the name "fire" came from them being bright red. Nonetheless I still have lots of red ants in my back yard, and as we all know from playing sim ant red ants are not tolerable!

Red ants and fire ants are not the same thing as RIFA, red imported fire ants. All of them sting, but RIFA swarm, and sting, and their sting is much more painful, like a bee sting.

I'd call the Orkin man. Fire ants can be a serious problem and I think their nests are fairly deep. You'll need some heavy duty agent orange to take care of them.

Man, you live in Bugville USA. I read somewhere that the spiders that live indoors are not the same kinds as the ones who live outdoors. The spiders that normally live outdoors can't survive long indoors, because of the lack of food and water. Maybe some of your spiders got in by mistake and then died. They sell products for ant infestations. I tried one that worked very well. Its a liquid ants mistake as food and then take home, but its poison and kills them massively.

I wouldn't recommend stomping on their "hills" to kill them... they will swarm up out of the ground VERY QUICKLY and you won't like their bites

The small creatures of this world have an important part to play, you should love them a bit and(unless they are Fireants) marvel at them as they work the good work of Nature - try looking at them through a looking glass to get closer to there wonderful world

OTOH If they are a nasty stinging type of ant, then you may need to be mr.evil to them.

So test it first to see if they sting like hell or just crawl around not biting you

on that theme you could harvest them and boil them in chocolate - they taste pretty good(better than raw anyway, unless they are the 'honeypot' vareity of ant). You will have a near constant source of nutricious snacks

Buy ant killer or call a bug man.

Don't stomp on the hills. Sometimes it's fun to poke them with a stick and watch them swarm when the stick is long enough. But don't let any on you. Even if it isn't a fireant it isn't funny to have ants crawling all over your dumbass.

If they were all over your shoes, you probably stepped right in a hill without even knowing it. Next time watch where you're going.

No that is a wasted effort. Just buy ant poison and be done with them for good. Those Argentine Fire Ants are a pain in the ass but a bit of poison solves the problem.

Next time put something in the picture so we can judge scale. A hammer, a shoe, a pocket knife, or even car keys work. Next that likely is an insect or rodent hole and not an ant hole. fire Ants are small except for the male "warrior" class which are about three times the size of the other ants. Typically their holes are small with large piles of dirt and garbage piled up around the opening.

That doesn't have either so it is likely one of those sand digger wasps or some other non-harmful insects which don't really bother people.

Naw, Daizinon Crystals will take care of them. Just sprinkling a decent amount any where you see the ants then the worker ants will take it back the hive and feed it to everyone including the queen. With in a week there will be no more ants.

Most of the wasps you'll find in the south west don't bother anyone. They hunt beattles and other insects and it is just the yellow jackets which bother humans who get to close. The yellow jacket nests are built under the eves of houses or in storage sheds and generally they're very easy to spot.

Just take a garden hose with a pressure nozzle to the yellow jacket nest and once the nest is knocked down throw it away. The wasps will go else where.

Just stay away from it and don't flail your arms about if she flies nearby, you'll just agitate her. Or you could spray RAID into her nest when she's in it and be done with it.

It might be an ant hole but I doubt it. Ants, especially fire ants, are militant bastards with guards and lines of workers filing in and out. Also they take the waste and dug up sand and deposit it at the mouth of their nest so you get large piles of stuff at the opening. I don't see that here.
