I'm not taking your crap on this. Do you know how to read? Apparently not. This, from the f*cking thread title:

I know you don't know this, but I've had a horrible week — my father had a heart attack and a dear co-worker died of rapid-spreading cancer after being diagnosed less than a two weeks ago.

Suffice to say, your being "spoiled" in a thread whose title clearly marked it as such is of trivial concern to me.

Good day.

Sorry to hear about your father, Gate. And the co-worker as well.

And yes - since this thread is clearly about the movie, coupled with the fact that I specifically asked for reviews and commentary, spoiler boxes are unecessary. As long as we're talking about Star Wars films, of course...

Do they explain why Darth needs his heavy breathing equipment? How his head got so big and pasty? How he lost his hand?

MrFun, JohnT:

Your thoughts are much appreciated.

Lancer:

Anakin lost his hand to Darth Tyrannus in Episode II. It's explained in Episode III how Anakin came to need the heavy breathing equipment to live, and how his head became so monstrous.

A few more thoughts on Episode III:

13. The part about Qui-Gon's individual essence surviving on in the Force felt tacked-on to me, as it was mentioned by Yoda only in the last minute or so of the movie, and Qui-Gon himself never appears as a Force ghost.

14. Insofar as I can tell, Palpatine told the truth only *once* during the movie, and that was when he told Anakin that, in his rage, he killed Padme Amidala. Which he did — he killed her will to live, and she died moments after giving birth to Luke and Leia. Palpatine is definitely a master manipulator. That or everyone around him are imbeciles. Probably a bit of both.

Another bit of commentary:

The introduction of "Episode" numbers, and the renaming of certain films, is as much an insult to the intelligence of the audience as is the character of Jar-Jar. The fact that these two things occurred during the same movie is even more fitting.

Well remember it was Qui-Gon's voice shouting 'no' when Anakin massacred the sandpeople in episode 2.

LOVED IT!

What a fabulous movie! As I was saying, all the prequals were leading up to this and it sure did not dissapoint. The CGI which looked somewhat cheesy back in TPM is jaw dropping here. This is the best looking movie I've ever seen. It blows LOTR trilogy out of the water. The action is non stop and the dialogue isn't bad (as good as the original trilogy). McGregor is perfect as Obi-Wan, Christensen plays Anakin well, and McDiamid is excellent as Palpatine.

I would have liked to have seen Anakin's fall more streached out, but the movie was over 2 hours as it was! That said, I was satisfied that keeping Padme alive turned him.

And I like the visual touches at the end. Padme's burial procession shows that they faked the twins dying when Padme did.

And how much fun to see a proto-Death Star?

I'd have to say this is perhaps the best Star Wars movie aside from ESB.

I give it an A!

el freako is correct. Qui-Gon was screaming NO as Anakin killed the Sandpeople when Yoda was meditating.

Yep, like the aging of Palpy by Windu's deflection. It seemed like he planned it that way. To make him seem even MORE weak, thus having Anakin 'save' him and to show the Senate that the Jedi tried to kill him.

quote:
Er... didn't Leia mention remembering her mother in ROTJ?

Leia was born second, so I guess that is where that comes from... remember Leia is force sensitive as well.

Actually the introduction of Episode numbers was in ESB, which was called Episode V.

(Link of your pwnage at SDMB saying the same thing):
http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb...ad.php?t=317349

You bring up a good point though. So many people rant and rave about Greedo shooting first... what about the addition of Episodes and calling "Star Wars", "A New Hope"?

Oh, and for all the haters of the changes, "midichlorians" are mentioned again .

1st half-hour are so was good, nothing spectacular. The space battle was impressive but failed to capture my imagination. Dooku was disposed of awfully fast.

The only way this film went was up and up though. The fight against General Grievous was fantastic. Even the dialogue wasn't too bad this time, with Senator Palpatine excellent in his seduction of Skywalker to the Dark Side. As for the Order 66 scenes... gut-wrenching, but just the drama I needed to see.

And Yoda, just when the galaxy needs him the most, vanishes, clearly seeing that the writing is on the wall. He could have taken the Emperor - hell, Mace Windu did most of the hard work against him. Just when the galaxy needs him the most the little green runt goes on a runner to Dagobah!

Brilliant movie, a bit slow at the start but that's my only criticism. 9 thumbs up.

However it may have been part of the plan. So when Anakin walks in, he sees Palpatine weakened. After all, he can read the future (well, somewhat).

Yeah, I agree with Imran. It looked like he faked his weakness, esp. when after anakin jumped in, iirc, he cackled and zapped Windu-clearly he had some reserves left.

I think they could have made Anakin more evil-especially after in the suit-I was still feeling that he could be saved, even then. He just seemed more confused and misled than pure evil, though it was what 18 years before ANH, plenty of time to work on evil.

Well there is the theory that Vader, after finding out that Padme was dead (and he killed her), became cold emotionally and vowed to not love again. You can say that he may have died inside after learning of Padme's death... after Padme died when thinking Anakin was dead.

I went to the 1pm showing this after noon and I did try to buy tickets for last night but they were sold out. Both the 12:01am and the 3:00am showings were sold out. Can you believe that?

Even today the theater was packed with a ton of people who were obviously playiing Wookie-hookie.

Over all the movie was pretty good but the end didn't seem flow as well as it could have. There is no explination as to why Darth Vader's outfit was styled the way it was or how jedis who can read people's minds can be caught so completely by surprise.

Shock of their own troops turning on them. That was my thought. They lost their focus when they realized their allies 5 minutes before were shooting at them.

And can most Jedi read people's minds? I thought they can 'see' actions or 'feel' when something is amiss, but not read minds. The only one I can think of is when Vader learns from Luke that he had a sister.

Yeah, Obiwan chops off his legs and his arm then Anakin's clothes catch on fire from the lava and he's badly burned. I'm still scratching my head wondering why Obiwan walks away before Anakin is dead since his sole mission was to go kill Anakin.

He probably thinks there is no way he's going to survive (doesn't know that Palpatine realizes that he is in trouble... without that he would have died). And he wouldn't kill him while he is dying... that would be something a Sith would do.
