Americans loved seeing their compatriots shot dead by terrorists. They thought that was a correct punishment for their crimes and wholesomely accepted it with pleasure. Their greatest joy was seeing two airplanes of commercial airlnes crushing into one of their most significant building. The joy was such that everyone came out dancing on the streets, running and yelling from joy.
This unique sense of self realization, humility but also lust for expression of joyful feelings was what made the US the most sucessful country of the modern age.

The fear of snowball effect is what the BM is afraid to a large extend, I'm sure.
However I don't know how it has managed to put itself in that position whereas Louvre is doing just fine with as many if not more artifacts.
Must be something wrong with the way they deal with things.
Or it's just because of Melina Mercouri's "craziness" that that subject has evolved to this.
Or maybe the Louvre didn't steal?
