Here's what I read. No, you can't download Gamecube games. Irc, you will be able to put Gamecube disks in the Revolution. I'm not a retro gamer myself. Unlike tabletop games like Monopoly, for example, I can't help but feel that videogames, like any other technological product, become obsolete with time.

quote: Wow. Good move. When we spoke with Nintendo about the price of their classic “emulated” games on the Revolution, they were coy and left the pricing up to our imaginations. I assumed they’d follow the GBA model — 10-12 bucks for a classic would be fair. But George Harrison of Nintendo just sprung a surprise. Classic Nintendo titles will be free. Buy the console, take it home, plug it in and start playing your old faves. They’ll have to be careful not to offer too much out of the gate. After all, you want people to spend money on the software. But as far as exciting services to offer with their new hardware, it’s hard to come up with a better idea. |

spiffor:
This is how it's supposed to will work:
The Revolution will have DVD sized discs for its own games
The Revolution will be able to load and play Gamecube games from Gamecube discs (so, presumably, only if you own the gamecube game)
The Revolution will be able to download N64, SNES, and NES games from a Nintendo server, free of charge.
Just the thought of that is so awesome.

I'm not rushing out to buy a HD television anyways. Unlike some technomaniacs I can keep the same TV for a few years.
Besides, who would want to play Goldeneye 007, Duck Hunt, and Yoshi's Island in HD?

I don't think Nintendo would sell the Revolution at a loss. Therefore, even if many people only bought it for older games without ever buying a single Revolution game, it would be OK.
However--isn't there a licensing issue with the many third party games? If it was only Nintendo-made games, it would still be nice, but no longer would it rock.

You have been reported.
Expect the super team (Shigeru Miyamoto and Reggie Fils-Aime) to kick your ass at an undisclosed time between now and tomorrow morning.

Hardware wise, it'll be more or less a draw.
Software wise, Sony doesn't have much exclusives people are clamouring over. All the hype from PS3 was the Killzone prerendered footage. Those of us who remember...Killzone was hyped to hell this year as Sony's "Halo killer".
It sucked: http://www.gamerankings.com/htmlpag....asp?q=killzone
Timeline wise, MS has about a year jump on the PS3.
Service wise, Xbox Live owns anything Sony has by orders of magnitude. |
Sony is planing to build a service like xbox live called underground. They hired the person that designed Live to build it. How do you call Devil May Cry and Soul Calibar not good exclusives. PS3 doesnt need a Halo killer because Halo sucks. A mediocre shooter with decent mp support can kill Halo.

Now you're not being fair. Don't worry, they'll have the exclusives. They'll probably have Final Fantasy 12, they'll have the next Gran Turismo, Metal Gear Solid (Splinter Cell is superior, but a lot of people love the Metal Gear series) and possibly the next Grand Theft Auto. Imo, Microsoft has a lot of work to do on exclusives. They can't rely on Halo alone in order to beat Sony. To be fair, they did a decent job this time around, but they need something really big, like Grand Theft Auto and Splinter Cell exclusives (but that would be very expensive.)
