Process of Picking Civs Lose 30 kilos (of popups)

What do we do to continue with the Civ choice process once the poll is done?

It's somewhat dependant on how the Agr poll goes, but:

I think HE has the right idea. However, if the poll goes in favor of all civs, I think we may have too many to choose from in one round of voting, even voting for 3 civs. So, in that case, I propose that we A) ask the UN for more time, B) Do two rounds of voting, the first of which to determine the top X civs to be voted between in the second round. (X=6? 8?)

If Agr civs do win, I think we'd have a small enough pool to just do one of the 3-2-1 AKA Borda polls.

BTW, I just went through the discussion thread and I counted 17 civs.

(Here's the list if anybody wants)

quote:
Maya
Inca
Sumeria
Persians
Iroquois
Aztec
Celts
Dutch
Ottoman
Germany
Chinese
Byzantines
Carthage
England
India
Zulu
Rome

I think narrowing it down to 7 with an initial round wouldn't be a bad idea.

OK, so narrow it down to just these 7 civs:

  • Mayans;

  • Celts;

  • Iroquios;

  • Aztecs;

  • Incans;

  • Dutch;

  • Sumerians;

Poll seems fairly conclusive. Ag civs it is.

Shall we do the 3-2-1 HE suggested to choose the final top 3?

Ditto zerialienguru

1. Sumeria (good defensive UU will make rushers think twice and pretty much guarantee our early existence, Scientific is a good trait)
2. Maya (UU, which makes all 2 attack units cost 30, is something of a liability if anything, which is why I put Sumeria first; but Industrious is an awesome trait)
3. Iroquois (Commercial is a decent trait and for us I'd say it's better than Religious which is why Celts don't make my list. UU is great if we can find the horses)

Dutch have a good UU, but I just don't think the Seafaring trait is our best bet. We'll have plenty to worry about on our own continent, I'm sure; and our start will be on coast, which pretty much dictates having to palace jump.

What everyone over looks with the Iroquois is that we need Iron OR Horses to have a three attack unit in the anchient era. One or the other, so we don't have to rely on getting IW, and then finding a source of iron.

The Sumerians UU is a warrior, a unit that we will have to explore with. If we come up to an enemy, they can just throw away a warrior, and we lose our GA when we have only one or two cities. That has to be the most foolhardy choice that can be made, as we are in a competitive environment where players are going to do everything they can to beat us.

And if they want to rush us, they don't even need to engineer a rush that can beat us, they only need to make one that forces us to use Enkidus to defend, and we lose the GA in another way.

I could live with any Agr civ, just not the Sumerians...

Good point about the Iro. I had forgotten that.

As for Sumeria: if it comes down to it, I'm willing to sacrifice our GA to ensure we survive. Yes, their GA sucks. But I like pretty much everything else about them; Scientific should prove to be a good trait in the long haul - and there probably will be a long haul if we survive the early game, since this is Continents.

We are going to be a target for an early rush. We have proven time and again that if we are given time to build, no one can compete with our MM.

WE WILL BE RUSHED BY MULTIPLE OPPONETS EARLY AND AT THE SAME TIME!!

The best way to counter that will be Sumeria. 1/2 cost spears is the way to go.

Err, I think you skipped 2 and 3?

And any civs beyond the first three don't count for your votes, just to make sure it's clear.

Anyway, I agree a rush is very very likely. Multiple rushes is certainly likely too, though for them to be coordinated, our rushers would need to make contact in time.

Got spare money?

1) Sumeria - Sci & cheap "spearman/warrior" (cheap defence while REXing, cheap Libs/Uni and Free techs each age)
2) Iroquois - Com & MW's (manoverability with a punch)
3) Dutch - Sea & Swiss Merks (+1 to all ship movement - better chance of getting across ocean & Better MA defence)

Too bad we can't play all 3....

How will we handle point ties?

With Ormuzd's post, Sumeria and Iroquios are tied for first, with 29 points each.

Got spare money?

do we have the time to run three poles?
the first will include all popular civs
the second - all from the first one except the winner
the third - all from the second poll except the winner

If there are ties on the first and on the second we will run one poll less

This will reveal a full picture of our intentions. The drawback is time

we should vote soon. i'd say the vote should look like this:

-the options are the 7 agri civs and each gets three slots. with first, second or third choice.

-everybody has three votes (multichoice, but limited. dunno if this is possible in this forum but we can write it into the header that everybody has exactly three votes)

-everybody can vote for each position (1st,2nd,3rd) once

-one abstain-option (if you vote this you must not vote anything else)

-make the vote public so if somebody accidently votes wrong we can find it and correct it...

in the end we will easyly see if everybody voted correct, as the number of 1st, 2nd and 3rd votes have to equal.
now every 1st vote gives the civ 3 points, 2nd gives 2p and 3rd gives 1p.
in the end we will have a nice ranking.

I don't think the polls can be set up like that. We can just go with the current thread. If there is a tie we can just vote one or the other. How long is this poll going for anyway?

It appears it will be down to the Iroquois or Sumeria anyway.
