Actually now as I check the web for other resources aside of what I've read before (sources refering to DICE Canada), it seems there's a mixed message coming out.

If you check the "Participants" list in the game lobby, you can see that 90% of the programmers, artists and managers have Swedish names. There is also a list with a half-dozen or so people at DICE Canada who contributed.

I may buy this game. I never bought battlefield: Vietnam, but I have played several hours when I was over my brother's house on his computer.

It's one of the few FPS games I enjoy. I bought Doom3, but quickly grew bored of that one.

The only problem is I suck at these games. My kills are usually at the bottom of the list.

But sometimes I like to hide in an unsuspecting place away from the action, and kill any enemy soldier who passes by. Usually they let their guard down, and aren't expecting to be killed so far away from the main battles.

I too find myself at the bottom of the kill list but enjoy playing anyhow

I love sniping and love climbing a tower and watch for unsuspecting opposition forces

Of course, claymore mines at each landing to catch sneaky enemies from backdooring me

Were you playing tonight? It was where MEC is on an island and the Marines have to take the whole island. Somebody named Chemical Ollie kept dropping cluster bombs with annoying accuracy and killing our squad.

I usually die more than I kill.

But I have my moments where I heal alot of other players or capture alot of flags. That seems to be when I get a high score. I also like blowing up enemy tanks and especially APCs.

The snipers in Battlefield 2 don't seem as strong as they were before. I think the sniper gun is less powerful. However, I think the "unlocked" .50 cal sniper rifle can knock you out with one shot. I also see less snipers that find good cover this time, or maybe I'm just better at finding them, or maybe both.

The auto shotgun destoys people at close range, they don't have much of a chance, so it's good for taking or defending flags, where most guys are fighting 5 feet in front of you.

I agree about tk'ing being a bad thing, but I was in a fire fight and ran across a street , had 3 opposition forces coming around the corner toward me, knew I couldnt take 'em all out, so I threw several frags there way and then opened up with my M-16 and got a penalty because a temate happened to come from my 3 position and was gonna use a SAW on them, I know I got a tk, but a frag, well he ran into it, I didnt throw it into him.

Oh well

OH okay.

This guy was so good on the cluster bombs he was ANNOYING.

Most guys just rollup on the bases and randomly drop cluster bombs on them.

This guy would find places away from the bases, with alot of cover, and still nail the hell out of people, not only vehicles, but even infantry.

In another instance I was on something like an LAV (Light Armored Vehicle) on top with the machine gun and saw a red tag and heard round hitting my vehicle, opened fire and hit my troops on other side, got a warning for that

oh well, at least its strict, but that once @ZZ that was on the ship killing all his teammates from the gattling gun didnt

One thing that really annoys me about this game is the time required to find a decent server. It could take half an hour or more from the point where you enter the game lobby until you can actually spawn. You chose a server, sit there and wait for 5-10 minutes then get an error message and have to start over with another server. It could go on forever. And the ranked servers say I have an illegal mod, and ask me to use the vanilla game.
I JUST INSTALLED THE VANILLA GAME THIS WEEK, STUPID! Right out of the retail box!

I do have some beefs with the server interface. What I don't like is when you spend 5 minutes scrolling down the list of servers, and you click on a server, and it's full. So then the damn list goes all the way back to the top! You lose your place in the list.

About the "mod" thing, you might want to install the latest patch, maybe that is the problem?

Always remember to stay up with patches when you buy any new game. Install any before you start playing it the first time and check out ocasionally the official website of the game for new updates. Especially as BF2 is a game which most likely is going to see some 4-5 patches overall. Now for those error messages, you've most likely tried either a full server or the server has been running a different version (the patched one), but for some reason those haven't been filtered out.

@ others

Only amateurs use the in-game game server browser. There's far better utilities out there for more easy game server searching. Kali, GameSpy 3D and The All-Seeing Eye are the best choices out there for online multiplayer opponent locating software. All do require subscriptions, but yiu can have a free try. None the less, that's what hardcore gamers use. I myself have two lifetime subscriptions for ASE. The in-game game server browser of BF1942 was quite okay with in 1.61, but in 1.0 it was crap.

Very, very few games patch themselves. Thankfully. It would be a PIA to have some autopatch mechanism. Following up on what's up is much more comfortable.

Eh? I've played several, since we're talking about MP games anyway. Lots of Blizzard games do, and it's the norm for all MMORPGs I've played.

At work, however, the system administrators have set my computer to auto-downloading Windows components once they're available... I don't like it one bit, I want control...

Well there's a terminology mix-up. Chemical clearly meant that the game auto-patches when you log in or launch the game, and there are many examples.

What I meant was that on a MP game with global stats recording, like Blizzard's games, WW2OL etc, you would expect the game to automically update itself with the latest patch when you log on to an official stats server, so that every player have the same version. BF2 is the first game I played in a long time that doesn't (except mods or cracked games, naturally).

In any case, installing the patch solved my "access denied to ranked servers" problem. Now I have multiple CTDs instead.
