To form part of the FAM.
Requirements:
- Have good conversational skills*
- Have a cool temper and know when to use restraint
- Good writing and reading abilities, by this I mean the ability to read between the lines and gauge oppossing team sentiment.*
- Be available for IRC chat as that is where most of the actual diplomacy will take place.
- Enjoy vodka martinis, shaken, not stirred.
What exactly is needed? Well for starters, I'd like to have a deputy to share some of the strategic diplomatic thinking as well as to take my place in my absence (not that I forsee myself being absent in the near future but still, you never know). Then of course, we'll start needing ambassadors, preferably one for each team.
In the past ISDG, the FAM was more than just a ministry, it was a family (or should I say, FAMily). We were the most tightly-knit of all the players in that game and had a lot of fun not only with in-game matters but with out-game matters (heck we had our own private chat room).
It is my belief that active diplomacy is THE single most important aspect of demogaming. Teams which are negligent in their diplomacy quite simply fail regardless of how good their Civ-gaming skills are.
- We must be active in seeking allies.
- We must be active in plotting against others before they plot against us.
- We must be unconventional at times, there are no such things as bad ideas, only better ones.
- We must never lose our focus on what our immediate objecitves are, as well as our long-terms ones can be.
- We must be visionaries and try to gauge what others think and plan.
- We must also be ruthless. We are here to win, and win we will, at all costs.
- We must be flexible. There will be no ideologies, no doctrines, no dogmas. We will do what is necessary putting our team's interests above anything else.
So, anybody up to the challange?
-MZ
* Please note that this is not synonymous with having good english-language skills. What's important is the way in which you get your idea across to the other side, and how good you interpret what they say, not how good your grammar is or how many big words you know. I know, for example, that some of the Germans are excellent diplomats from the PTWDG experience, and I'm sure many other of the non-english-native-speakers can do just as good a job as anyone else. In short, anyone can join!

Don't forget that MZ will be having "Evil Plans 101" lessons as part of your training...

I am currently an Ambassador for Babylon in the Eve Of Destruction Demo PBEM Game, and am enjoying it.
What do you need?
I have never set up IRC, but see no reason why I couldn't.
Let me me know.

I don't think I can help in the ways that E_T is looking for help. Vodka Martinis will do though.

R u talkin' to ME? R u talkin' to ME?
My english skills are very bad at the moment... My grammar sucks and I don't know any big word. So, if I understood correctly, I'm perfect for the job.
Just kidding, I don't have diplomatic skills. Beeing a political cartoonist, I don't have ANY diplomacy!
However, you, FAM boys, may need some good maps later in the game.

Really? A brazilian team? Speaking Spanish???
Well... home is where your heart is. So... (unless we're talking about soccer! ), "Poly, sweet poly"!
Now, back to FAM... I can talk eventually in chats, but I just can't do anything diplomatic by myself. I have a big mouth, I can't keep a secret. You can even use me to give fake info to the enemy... Just make me believe in any fact and let me alone in a chat room. After few minutes I'll say "oops! I did it again!"
Hey, I'm kidding!
Is good to be here.

As Con (apo export to PAL) is a friend, and if he is involved in their diplo talks, I will be glad to work with him. He may know too much of how I work though for it to be of benefit.
for example, here is a chat I had with CDG at the beginning of the last demo game. It was unofficial (except for the fact that I was MoI, I made it very clear it was just friendly chatting, not official government policy) and as I was using Java, there was no chat log to post. Con is very aware of how I handled this with them, and how I was communicating with our own people on it, which is why I am not sure if I would work well with him (assuming he is the one to even talk to us).
quote: I kept getting cut off. D@mn Java. Here are my notes.
Louis the XXIV is their foreign dude, and he just showed up with my last disconnect.
Lies to MRex that I made:
We are to the NORTH of him
We are and have been pre-building for a granary
Our second city will definitely be on the water for us to build Curragh’s.
We are debating on what to research next, writing or Iron working
We are limited in how far NORTH we can expand
Info I gave them:
First city not on the water
It would take us 35-40 turns to research writing (they will get it in less than 30)
Actual trade up for discussion:
Bronze for WC, with minor adjustments to be made if the science cost is not the same (nobody wanted to bother looking it up)
IF we go the route of Iron – they will trade
WC & Writing FOR BW, Iron & Pottery
This would put us on a path for…. Republic.
This is the general idea: With both of us having writing, one of us researched COL and the other Philosophy. We time it so that the team that gets philosophy first already has COL (which the other team already researched) and the free tech is Republic. Then they trade Philosophy and Republic to the team that researched COL. Both teams end up even in tech with Republic.
Questions asked of us:
How close are we to him (answer I gave him is less than 20 – but he figured out that as it is less than 20 turns….. d@mn).
He wanted to know which way we could expand. (answer I gave him was slightly more than ½ way SOUTH towards him, but then we would go west).
Info he gave us
Their first research was going for philosophy. They are almost done with writing.
They are at a dead end peninsula. There is nothing to the South or East of him.
They have a warrior and a Curragh sorta near each other. From the way he was talking, he didn’t realize that we cannot see him as we are one save behind…. |
