Races? They really aren't that much different from each other, although some are more suited to other classes than others.

The classes aren't all totally evenly balanced, but the balance changes slightly with every patch so there's not much point in picking your class based solely on the current situation.

All races are essentially the same in terms of stats. The starting stats differ slightly but IIRC they all start to converge as you go up the levels. They do all have different racial abilities though (Tauren get the Stomp ability and slightly more HP, Night Elves can turn invisible if they stand still at night, etc.) but these are not a massive influence on gameplay.

The realms with the most people are also ones you might experience more lag on, so choose wisely. The medium population servers will still have a lot of people to group with.

Those currently playing can tell you how bad the lag is, and whether there is still queuing on the busiest servers.

I play Alliance on Perenolde (PvE) and Horde on Spirestone (PvP). It's not too bad lag wise and I have had no trouble finding groups on either server.

If you want to party up with me, feel free to create a character on one of those.

I disagree. With medium servers, if you don't play at peak times, it turns into a low population server. To be honest, the only place I ever experience lag is in IF.

I didn't think you were allowed to play on multiple servers? Or are you allowed 1 PvE and 1 Pvp? Or multiple characters on one account, with each character on a diff. server?

It's a good idea to have an alt. That way, if you get fed up with the quests at one level, you can accumulate a rest bonus and progress quicker.

If you choose a horde hunter, shaman or rogue on Spirestone, you can join our guild and I will make you some cool leather armour for free. Much better than you can buy from the vendors.

Spirestone is a pretty good server, about 14,000 characters and a 1:1 ratio between Horde and Alliance.

Taurens are the coolest looking characters in the game. Don't choose a night elf – that's the first choice of 13 year old whiners and gankers.

All the armour made by me with the exception of the boots [Feet of the Lynx], which were a blue drop from a random bear I killed in Ashenvale (lucky find of the week - I got a late add and died, ran back to pick up my corpse, and only looted the bear because I was going to skin it).

My guild on Ravencrest (EU PvP) are currently tooling up for Ragnaros. Yesterday we the whole of MC in 5.5hrs with only one wipe due to a lag pull of a few more Destroyers and Giants on top of us. Considering we couldn't kill Geddon or Shazzrah 5 weeks ago, we're doing quite well. Got my grubby mits on the Earthfury Gauntlets (yup another shaman).

Didn't realise they implemented the rest bonus like this. Still, in the beta, it didn't really make much difference.

It makes a lot of difference. Say you really hate the quests at one level. Then play a week as your alt, while leaving your main in a city or inn. Your kill XP's will be doubled for about 1 1/2 levels.

Blizzard added a new event to Azeroth. It's called the "Stranglethorn Fishing Extravaganza!" You go to the coast of STV and fish, and once you collect 40 kinds of this certain type of fish, you hand it in, and if you are the first person in your realm, you get a grand prize. It's not much, but better than nothing. I think that they should probably add six or so of these kind of events to each contintent. It would be more immersive, and make up for the lack of real-time events.

When I join (if my ****ing iMac order ever gets processed) I was leaning towards Alliance, although I am open to both..it will really depend I guess on which character looks cooler to me when I am setting them up.

And I doubt I will have time to play more than 2-3 characters.
